The only running tattoo I would ever get is the Olympic rings (after competing in the Olympics, obviously). A guy I used to train with got the Olympic rings after qualifying for the Trials in the marathon and then got injured prior to the Trials race. Either way, it was a stupid thing to do, but it was even worse that he didn't even run in the Trials. Cool guy, though.
All of those running tattoos on the link are terrible.
If you run in college and you really want a tattoo, I can see getting the school logo/mascot on the side of your thigh. Some of my teammates did that and it was okay. Basically, you can only see it when they are wearing split shorts. Now that I am 36, I am glad I didn't do that, but I don't think it would be a major regret.
Never get a band name or lyrics or anything like that. You never know how fast they can turn to suck or sell out, etc.
Now that I have been thinking about it, I can see getting your kid's name on your body of they passed away. Maybe right over your heart or something.
I just don't want a tattoo.
