Anybody have any tips on how to prevent bloody noses. I've had one about everyweek since the temp has been below 35 degrees, the 25mph headwind really doesn't help either. Just curious what I could do to help prevent stopping to have to put my head back to stop the bleeding, most times I just run through it but wind up leaving a trail of blood for a mile not to mention the mess on my shoes and clothers.
I've been running in MI winter cold since '69 and have never had a bloody nose, nor do I know anybody else that got one as a result of running in winter weather. I'd recommend you see a doctor who's opinion you respect or paw thru some running advice books or surf the internet looking for info.
You are probably getting a bloody nose due to the very dry air that can be commonplace in wintry/cold conditions. The wind makes it worse, it blows away any moisture that might be on your skin (or the lining on the inside of your nose). Try buying a saline nose spray, this means, its basically just water, NOT the medicated stuff. You can buy saline nose spray at pretty much any drug store. Spray 2 squirts into your nose 3 times a day, and before you run. My bet is after a few days of this, your bloody nose problem goes away. It worked for me, I used to have the same problem.
get a humidifire for your house or room, it has helped me a lot.
Before you go out for a workout coat the inside of your mostils with a little vaseline/KY/neosporin. This along with a humidifier in the bedroom helped me.
If all else fails, see an ear, nose, and throat specialist. Many years ago, I had to have a blood vessel cauterized in my nasal passages. I had my nose broken playing baseball and after it healed, started having frequent bloody noses. They traced it back to one particular blood vessel, burned it shut, and my bloody noses went away.
