Died today at age 69 from colon cancer. The quarterback of the 1970's Raiders dynasty. A team that won more games that decade than any other.
If Joe Namath is in the Hall of Fame with one Super Bowl win why isn't The Snake?

One of the all-time Greats. RIP, Kenny.
Cool as the other side of the pillow while in the pocket. Thanks for the memories, Snake.
NFL MVP 1974, should be in the HALL OF FAME!
Led Alabama to an undefeated season also, Followed Bart Starr at Bama. Hall of Fame QB in my book!
He was fun to watch. A crime he isn't in the Hall of Fame.

Son of the South. Was King of Gulf Shores, Ala., the "redneck Riviera." All I can guess is his lifestyle and having the hated Al Davis as team owner contributed to his not being in the Hall. So many wacky characters on that same Raiders team, many of them also now dead. The Tooz, Lyle Alzado....

Because his stats sucked. He had more career interceptions than TDs. Does Trent Dilfer belong too? He has a ring.
I'm 56 and I often wonder why many of today's NFL stars just don't seen to have "it".
Maybe part of it is because I'm an adult but I really think that guys like Tom B Brady got nothing compared to guys like Stabler and Namath. They were just cool.
Stabler had it for sure. One of my favorite players growing up. The 70s raiders were so much damn fun to watch. RIP
Sally, you're an idiot. You can't judge QB's from other eras vs. todays stats, the game has changed too much. Namath also had more INT's than TD's, he's in, and I'm sure there are others. Stabler was one of the best QB's in football for 10 yrs, 4 Pro Bowls, an MVP, a Super Bowl, can Dilfer say any of that but the latter? And was he one of the reasons they won the SB? And I didn't mention the "it" factor. Madden said if he had one drive to win a game he'd still pick Stabler. Cool as a cucumber, and just plain cool. Dilfer, f*cking funny.

Again, his career stats were terrible. Many more INTs than TDs. Namath does not belong either. I did not compare him to anyone of a different era.
Tebow also had the "it" factor. If he had led Denver to Super Bowl victory you would probably want him in there too.

It is clear that you have no understanding of the game of football.
That is all.

You guys would base your vote on emotion. I would base mine on player performance on the field. Game, set and MATCH!!!
Stabler's not in the Hall of Fame?
There's more to the game than stats. Everyone agrees that John Elway was one of the all time greats. If you looked at his statistics without knowing it was Elway you probably wouldn't be too impressed.
Football in the 70's was great and Stabler was one of the best from that era.
How can it be that he isn't in the Hall of Fame?
Stabler had the "it" factor for years. He wasn't a flash in the pan.

I may just puke if I hear Stabler having the "it" factor again. Look, I am Kenny Stabler fan. He was a very good player. But he was a beneficiary of a team that rivalled the 70's Steelers in terms of talent. HOF finalist Cliff Branch. Hall of Famer Fred Bilentifkoff. Hall of famer Dave Casper. That is just his receivers! Also, Hall of famer Gene Upshaw. So many other greats on that team. You guys mention John Elway. His stats for first half of career were pretty lackluster. But he ended with 300 TDs and 226 INTs versus 194 TDs and 222 INTs for Stabler. Even at Alabama he was not a very good QB - career TDs - 18 .... career INTS 18. You say stats are not the end-all. In baseball Stats are EVERYTHING. Maybe not so much in football but who would you want of these two QBs - 400 TDs and 200 INTs versus 200 TDs and 400 INTs guy with the "it" factor?
Namath is mainly in the Hall because he's the "impact player" who did more to legitimize the AFL and make the merger with the NFL seem credible. He's not in for his achievements. He only really had two or three seasons as a top tier QB. But there's that "impact" thing.
As someone said, stats aren't the whole thing. Up until a few years ago, when QB ratings started getting much higher, two of the QBS among the tops in career ratings were Dave Krieg and Neil Lomax. I don't think anyone would argue to put them in the HOF.
Being a Raider fan in that era, you had to hear and see him perform. If Montana was the best in the Bay Area, Stabler was a close second in coolness and the ability to deliver under pressure. Next came Steve Young.
Those were a different type of Raiders than the teams of recent years.
