Umm...Kibiwot is from Kenya. So either that was an Ethiopian athlete that they credited as Kibiwot, or Kibiwot was mistakenly credited as being from Ethiopia.
Furthermore, if it is Kibiwot, I guess she had an off-day.
Considering that's over a second faster than Mary Cain has ever run, three seconds faster than Cory McGee has ever run and faster than Sarah Brown had ever run when they ran in the 2013 World Championships, it didn't.
Yes, agree with ij.
Unknowns like KerriG coming out of the woodwork to easily best WC Q standards and run world class times.
How did it get so good, so fast?
A great race for Kerri.
Her pb before USA semis was 4:09.64. She ran 4:08.70 in the semis of USAs and now runs 4:03.56.
So her PB has come down 6 seconds this year!!!
4:03 in Lignano
4:05 for Efraimson

actually you are right - I just checked best american times in the 1500 and 403 is darn good
woulda been
6th in 2013
4th in 2014
4th or 5th in 2015
so withdrawn.
But I still don't think she'll make the final

Bernard Lagat tweeted that it was actually his sister Violah Lagat. He seemed pretty frustrated with the mistake, I gather because she didn't previously have the A standard.
Lagat tweeted to me... yes, mistake of organizers!if u check official results now thery are corrected and his sister Violah appears regulary!!

Take a look even further back. Before Rowbury broke through in 2008 and ran 4:00, no American women were making WC/OG finals, let alone medaling. There were a lot of years where it was iffy if we would have enough women with the standard to send 3 women! 4:05 was what our top women were running. Since then we have had an insane explosion of depth where women like Gallagher, Mackie, Gruenwald, Brown, McGee, Moser, Johnson are fighting for spots on the US team while they would have been US champions 8 years ago. In that time Anna Willard, Christian Wurth Thomas, Jenny Simpson, Shannon Rowbury, and Brenda Martinez chased down WC medals, diamond league wins, and the 4 minute barrier while Cain, Efraimson, and Cranny have rewritten the HS/JR record books.

Hey there, Ventolin!
Yes, Context, excellent perspective.
US women's sprints and short hurdles have always been the medal winners at Olys & WCs.
800m gals are now almost as dominant worldwide with the hs record now under 2:00 . . . a world-class time in itself.
Probably starting with Rowbury as stated above, she & Simpson & Uceny moved the US back into the ranks of medal winners, picking up where Decker/Slaney & Larrieu left off years ago. And, the teens have taken Hasay's hs record from 4:14 down to 4:03 in the last couple years.
With all that mid-d talent, expect to see more 1500 gals move up to the 5k at next year's Oly Trials like Follet & Felnaegle did this year at USAs.

Will bet she doesn't not make the final at WC.
Oh yes, by Letsrun.com protocol this would be by all means considered suspicious improvement and be questioned , yes or no?

No, this is factually inaccurate. Since the inception of the World Championships in 1983 at least one American woman has made the final in 6 out of 11 WCs held before Rowbury medaled in 2009, including 2 medals won.
Over roughly the same time span, American women have made Olympic finals in 5 out of 6 Olympics held from 1984-2004, before Rowbury made the finals in 2008.
4:03.56 winning does not indicate the same quality run as 4:03 in 8th place in a 3:58 race. Qualifying for the finals will still be tough, but this indicates that she can run faster still. I'd love to have gotten drops like she's gotten this year in my 20s or later.

I wasn't referring to the entire span of the World Championships, I was referring to the era right before 2008. The fact of the matter is from 2001-2007 there were ZERO finalists from the USA in the women's 1500. This includes the 2004 Olympic 1500 final. The women were good in the 90's and things really cooled off, not sure why (drug testing perhaps?), but we were sending 2 women most of those years and we have now sent FOUR women to the last two WCs in the 1500.
What's wrong with Cory though. Some pretty disappointing results of late. She's still hot though.
Can we edit the title? I think the woman has earned the right to have her name spelled properly.
agreed.
