Cory Leslie is just as 1500 fast as Jager and even faster at 800 and 1000 meters. Way faster than Huling and Cabral at under-distance events. He needs to get his 5k PR down. Cabral and Huling are sub,13:20 and Jager is sub, 13.
He's actually 2 seconds slower than Jager over 1500 (and his 1500 is better than his mile) and has given it many more attempts.
Athleticism is important in the steeple and in the 800 so good 800 runners tend to steeple better than you'd think, but physiologically racing 8 minutes is more similar to racing 13 minutes than to racing under 2 minutes.
Jager is significantly better than his US competition at 1500 and 5000, and he hurdles well. Until another sub 13:10 guy decides to start running the steeple Jager will be in his own class nationally.
