The gift is to be able to run and to run well. For some that means 27:30 (like Pre), for others that means to chase a sub-30 10k or a sub-2:20 marathon or a sub-4:30 mile for high schoolers, or just the 20:00 5k for beginners. Maybe Pre meant this as it applies only to himself (as in HIS gift). But I think of it the way that I just wrote it. Not that I ever think of that quote, but I do think about not wasting the gift of being able to run all the time.
If you don't, and you generally take running for granted, you either:
a) don't really love running. You just do it because you aren't better at something else.
or
b) you love running, but have NEVER had it taken away from you.
Trust me, if you LOVE running, as in LOVE it more than sex or your family, you know what he's talking about.
