Interesting to compare Goodwin to former Giants RB David Wilson. Wilson hadn't jumped since 2011 when he competed at the adidas GP on June 13 in the triple jump. He only jumped 14.66 meters there (into a -1.4 headwind) and finished dead last.

But the next day Wilson came back at the USATF East Region Championships at the same stadium and jumped 15.87 -- not far off his 16.02 PR (again, this was into a headwind of -1.3).

The biggest difference is Goodwin was (and is) a lot better than Wilson. Wilson was 6th at NCAAs in his final season at Va Tech. In Goodwin's final season, he won NCAAs, USAs and was 10th at the Olympics.

I think it shows that, first, Goodwin was probably in great shape, keeps himself in great shape generally.

Second, it shows that, for some, technique is like riding a bike. He was a long-jumper when he was a kid and through college. He didn't forget how to do it.

And, though it's his first competition in 3 years and he generally has not jumped, it's not like he didn't take ANY jumps before his PR. I'm sure he jumped for a few days before the meet.

Still, damn impressive.

Long jump not like High Hurdles where technique is so important. It is primarily speed and attempting to hit the board well. All it takes is one good attempt.

Most Bills fans wish he would continue long jumping and forget football...
