Raevyn Rogers 1:59.71 Deserves Its Own Thread

Heck of a run. Is it just me or does Natoya Goule look about 40?

So the U.S. has a 20 y.o. at 1:57, an 18 y.o. at 1:59, and another 18 y.o. likely 2:00 or better (Alexa). Not even including Cain, who is 19 with a 1:59 PR.

Some U.S. 800m medals are forthcoming in the next few years.

Great recap of the race, but isn't Ajee the U.S. Junior record holder, putting Rogers 3rd behind Cain?

Dude who really cares about Wilson she went pro not to College what a race run by Rogers I mean that faster then Roesler even ever ran at Oregon. To think Oregon gets both her and Prandini back next year and loses I think only 9 of their 59 points Neer and Weir I THINK Oregon got a DUCK DYNASTY GOING YEAH GO DUCKS BABY OOOOOOOOO

That race was a thing of beauty. After the leader went out insane, and the crowd knew it within 50 meters, Raevyn kept her head and ran her own race, had no one breaking the wind for her on the back straight, reeled in the leader and just put the hammer down with 150 to go.

Doing it on the big stage in the moment it meant the most.

Stunning.

Is that faster than Roesler ran as a senior? And speaking of Roesler is she out for the season? Nationals are in 12 days and there have been no recent results for her.

Uh, no "tons" of young women do not run sub-2:00 as a true freshman. Rogers is now faster than Wilson was at the same age. Props to Wilson she's running great, but she is not 20 -- she's 21 (born May 8, 1994). You do not need to boost her performance by making her younger than she really is.

A couple things - Natoya Goule is drop dead gorgeous but more on her - she is either not very coachable or her coach has no clue how to give her the best chance to win the 800M National Championships - her strategy me work in her conference, but not at a national meet.

How do you run a :56 first 400 and follow it up with a :69 last 400?

Why not go out at :59 - still fast because she likes that and try to go sub :61 in the last 400? Better yet, :60 / :59

Her strategy was similar to the Kenyan at world juniors who went out in 48 and hung on for 1:43. She just wasn't strong enough.

She left lsu for Clemson cause her coach changed schools. I think she's just suffering. Too.bad

No question she ran out of strength. Most likely was not going to beat Rogers the way she ran anyway. But, to go out that fast is not wise in my opinion. She has a 2:00 800M personal best. If she runs equal to her personal best, which is unlikely, she would have to run a 56 in the first 400 and a 64 in the last 400. That is not good strategy if that was her plan or her coaches.

As a coach or an athlete, maybe the greatest thing you can do for yourself is to be realistic and know where you are. If she was at her best of her career - that would be a 1:59 - an appropriate strategy would be 59/60 or 60/59 - I like the girl, I think her strategy was exciting for 75 seconds but did not give her the best chance to win when you are racing at the highest level.

Roesler has been dealing with an Achilles injury. Will not compete at USAs.
