This guy is legit! Ran 1:45 for a big PR at Stanford and now 2nd to Rudisha at a Diamond League ahead of Centro, Manzano, Andrews, Rutt, Wheating, Solomon, Bosse. A host of world and Olympic medalists/3:30/1:42 guys and he ran with balls from the front on Rudisha's shoulder the whole way. 1:43.84 is LEGIT! Vigil has another pupil.
Boris Berian - 1:43!!!

Wow. He is just 23 years old. Says he comes from the speed side of it and can do his strength work with Brenda Martinez, who doesn't mess around in workouts. Sky is the limit.

Was this his limit? Hopefully not since guys like Rudisha and Bosse are still in training phase, and are working towards the world champs. -
I heard a report from that camp out in Cali coming into this meet about a workout Boris did that I didn't believe. Now I am a believer.
1000m in 2:25
500, 300, 200 in 71, 41.5, 24.2
3x300 in 43, 41, 39 -
WHEATING, ANDREWS, SYMMONDS and SOLOMON are old news. Looks like there is a new Star born in the 800 and his name is BORIS BERIAN!
-
Here he is last weekend running a 1:45 solo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teHeC0oKebM -
Takeaways from the race:
Centro is fit - Manzano not far behind. Big PR for Centro and 3:30-3:32 shape right now. Manzano likely 3:31-3:33 shape.
Solomon - Dropped out but tweeted that he had one of his best workouts ever. As long as he just had an off day, he should be set.
Wheating - Needs to put it together. Looked great at Oxy, but his 800s since then have been shaky.
Andrews - Solid B for his race. 1:45 isn't bad, but that won't get you on the team. With Solomon, Berian, Symmonds, Loxsom, Jock and Martin all running similarly or better. However, 1:45 in the pool of 1500m runners right now in a tactical US final could put him right up there.
Predictions for USA's:
800m:
Berian
Soloman
Symmonds (too much experience)
4. Loxsom
5. Jock
6. Kidder
1500:
Centro
Leo
Andrews
4. Merber
5. Noelle -
Noelle before Blankenship? I'd even question putting Andrews in front of him.

Where are you getting all of this? :) -

No Blankenship in your top FIVE?
You must be joking. -

They can keep underrating Ben, but just sit back and watch at USAs. I've seen him training. He's FRIKIN DANGEROUS CALL THE COPS -

Best workout of his life, but results not reflecting that in at least two off races this season. I am a Solomon fan and am hopeful but I don't see your optimism based on a tweet.
He never looked comfortable in this one, running out in lane 2 for most of the lap before dropping out at 450 or so. Got out slow and tried to come around the line to tuck behind Rudisha , but couldn't get back in line further up.
Come on, Bang! -

you guys at letsrun are far too conservative
i have seen ~ 90% of every < 1'43 live on satellite or race on sportsreel day or 2 later
( only missing coupla Kip's 1'42s, coupla johnny's/cruz's 1'42s & full races of Rudy's 1'42s in nairobi
i've seen every < 1'42 live on satellite/cable/terrestial apart from coe's mickey-mouse firenze run when last coupla 100 shown on weekend after )
that race was quite simply windiest elite 800 ever !!!
straight after, bolt's legs nearly crumbled into a 2.8 !!!
i have absolutely no doubt you have to take 1s off boris's time for that brutal wind
he has to be considered currently, in ideal conditions :
~ 1'42-high !!!
he may be even better as beating bosse who was a 1'42.5 guy last year & this was race to get back there
look for boris to have a damn good go at johnny's 1'42.59 record this year... -
Berian has a 21.97 FAT. What 200 times for other greats?
He was also 47-low, 1:48 of course, and 2:32, indicating poor aerobic development previously. -

I thought Jim Ryun held the AR at 1:39? Eh? But that notwithstanding, if Letsrun people are far too conservative, perhaps you are batshit crazy? -

Just cause he has a 2:32 doesn't indicate poor aerobic development
Is he more speed based? Yes, that doesn't mean he doesn't have any aerobic tailor... -
The AR record is 1:42.60 - for someone that prides themselves on numbers, you'd think you could at least get that right.

no
learn to think
as i stated above, i have seen most every < 1'43 live, apart from coupla each Kip's/Johnny's/Cruz's/Rudy's 1'42s
i have seen every 1'40/1'41 live on satellite...
( apart from mickey-mouse firenze )
that's 10 of 11 live on satellite/cable/etc
how many guys on the planet do you think can claim the same ???
Ryun ?
quite simply a quantum leap above any 800'er who ever lived off just 1500 training !!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUsEuv3Debs
i can assure you, from a guy who has seen 10 of 11 live-on-satellite/cable < 1'42,
that is
~ 1'39.9
on a '70s synthetic off just 1500 training
Eh?
clueless
But that notwithstanding, if Letsrun people are far too conservative, perhaps you are batshit crazy?
you clearly are clueless
have you never heard about :
- ideal pacing
- non-existent quality pacers in '60s
( they got good in '70s
'70s pacers are probably even better than rubbish nowdays apart from magut pacing asbel only to 1400 in monaco-'14 !!!
magut ran 3'30.6 year after, but coudn't even get Asbel to 1100 in '13 monaco !!! )
- ideal drafting if elite cares to follow given weather/race $$$
- hyenas behind, like souly succumbed to in oslo
( even Asbel has to be considered a hyena as the oslo weather was suicidal to chase 3'44 for an african
the african pacers collapsed by 800, offering rubbish 1'53+ )
( i like him lot more now he went for 3'44 in disastrous unafrican weather )
- dirt
Ryun is a quantum leap better than any 800 guy than anyone who drew breathe
wouda been nice if he actually trained for it...
