Is it in his best interest to let a guy like Kemoy Campbell or Kirubel Erassa do some of the pace work for the first 3k of the race and then slowly grind him out? Or leave it up to the last lap and see who has the better final 400? What would you do in his shoes?
My coach used to always say, the best way to beat a kicker is to out kick him. I never really knew what that meant, but having seen williamsz, maks and Eric all beat him, this is exactly what they did.
Not sure that pushing for 1000 out is the best strategy to beat him, it might actually be to wait longer than he does.
However, this leaves the race open for Kemoy, the cuse and OSU kid.
I hope he can figure it out, I cannot stand cheserek.
Get in touch with Jeff Gillooly, and see if he knows anyone that can kneecap King Ches. That or food poisoning. Otherwise he has ZERO chance.
Why? Because he's a winner? Can't wait to see what criticism people come up with if he wipes the floor with Jenkins. I guess that will be considered being a poor teammate.

I'd love to see them all go hard from lap 1 to the finish but if I was advising Jenkins, I'd probably suggest that he repeat the indoor 3k approach of lurking (maybe do a better job holding to the rail and drafting, however) behind Cheserek, drafting off him, making no big moves until the last 50m when Ches thinks he's broken everyone, especially if Cheserek breaks his other opponents at 300 instead of 200 or 100--there he would cruise, wait for Ches to tire, and go. With a slow pace all the way, Cheserek could close around 25, maybe faster. Jenkins ran 25.8, going the last 150m at NCAA indoor. He can finish close to Cheserek under any circumstances in the NCAA, I think. Edge to Cheserek but not much.
this is unrealistic, but i really hope jenkins makes it a 13:20 race or faster. he ran 13:18 a couple years ago, he's gotta be in better shape now.

It can, yes. But I don't think Jenkins is the requisite 10-15s per mile fitter than Cheserek to pull it off.
I personally doubt he is fitter than Cheserek at all.

LOL. You really think Ches is going to think he's broken everyone with 50m left? He's going to break them with 150m left, and with 50m left he's going to be sprinting all out, and watching the video board, or looking behind him, or waving for the fans to cheer like Pipiot.
Jenkins chance is to run a PR, a sub 13:08 PR. Period.

My prediction for the race is that Jenkins and Cheserek will be chilling around 3rd-5th place behind the top leaders through 3200m at 8:46-8:49 and then Jenkins will make a move to seize the race. He ends up running roughly 4:04 for the last 1600 with splits of 62,61,61.xx,59.xx to run 13:23. Cheserek ends up following him the entire way and then shifts gears for a 54.high last lap with his last 200m being in 25 low for the win in 13:18.

Is it better to stretch the hate out over the full race, wire to wire? or sit back while someone else drains their hate and then unleash your hate at full capacity over the last 100-400m? Some may think ches can hate-match jenkins with either strategy. However, after the last race, I believe the total volume of hate in Jenkins' hate tank has increased more than Ches realizes... which means he may underestihate him.
