What do you do w/awards won?

I don't keep any trophies. I used to throw them out, but now I sometimes try to donate them if possible. The only things I keep are worthy prizes (ie.clothing) and money. I do have a couple certificates from National Championships, and 3 medals from significant national events, but otherwise I just toss them all out.

I don't mean any disrespect by it, and I know that one man's junk is another's gold, but I am totally anti-clutter and I don't really need a plastic trophy, or even a very nice trophy, to remind me of an event I ran. Give me a nice pair of Coolmax socks instead and I am happy!

What awards?

Maybe you should enter some Clydesdale races, Big Guy.

Most are buried in closets and drawers, but a select few that mean something to me are on display in out of the way places. I know people who proudly display meaningless plaques...not me.

I have a box on the top shelf in my closet with my medels. I pin up the articles from the school newspaper and the local paper on my board though.

Heard a story once where John Tuttle had been invited to a race with a little appearance money (and maybe a little appearance beer). Won the race took the prize money and on the way out of the park chunked the trophy into a trashcan. A few days later he receives the trophy in the mail. The RD had found it and mailed it to him.

I take all of my medals, cut the ribbons off, and hang them on my Christmas tree as ornaments. After 30 years of running, I have lots of medals and the tree looks awesome! I'm also thinking about taking the top off of a trophy this year and using it for the top of the tree instead of a star.

Use it for a hood ornament for your car.

I give trophies to the local track clubs for kids events. T-shirts become rags almost immediately. Wish the promoters would save the money on the frivolous crap, and start giving cash prizes at least 10 deep. Coming from the bike racing world, we couldn't imagine getting trophies over cash. I'd rather have a chance at recovering my entry fee money than have another "piece of art".

They are all away in boxes. I have a few that are special to me tucked around the house here and there but that's about it. I agree, gimme a pair of socks or cheap gloves over a plastic trophy any day. I feel badly when races spend good money on stuff like trophies that no one really wants. They could spend less and give useful stuff like socks and hats and people would be happy. Medals are the worst and boy do they pile up - I usually give mine to someone's kid to wear around.

Unless is prize is something I can use, I wouldn't imagine waiting around for an hour to get a trophy. It's not like my winning times are all that spectacular. "Hey everybody, look at me and and my huge trophy I won for running a 5k in 16:00." I rarely do races for anything other than to see how fast I can run. I, too, wish the RD's would cut down on the crappy t-shirts and trophies and let me pay $5 for a number and some water.

However, if there's beer after the race, I'll definitely wait around regardless of award.

I have a nice stack of Participation Placques from HS sports stacked up, I use them as bookends

Deep Six Em all! Wasted space, collect dust,usually cheesy and cheap, and who gives a shit about what awards you've won.

Most stuff I try not to even take home from the race. I usually "forget" the thing at the race, or chuck it in to the trash. I have a few ribbons from high school or something that are still hanging around that I use for book marks.

Most of my medals and certificates from college are sitting in a box, and I use my two All-American plaques and one team plaque from nationals for bookends. One of my All-American certificates is at my grandparents house.

Sitting in a quite corner of my study is the award (kind of a trophy like thing) from my senior year of college where my coach named me MVP (or something like that) of the track team. That really meant a lot to me. I respect the man so much, and I felt like it was a great compliment from him. I like to look at it a couple of times a year, and it makes me feel good inside.

Donated most trophies. Lost most of my medals.

Have kept a few "significant" ones, but damn if I could tell you where most of them are right now.

I have a room in the basement filled with stuff..even after trashing a lot of it after college.

I have my son, daughter, and their cousins (ages 9-13) race around our property...whenever one of them PR's on the course, they get a trophy. I've given away about 25 pieces...they love it and they're getting some exposure to running.
