The Kenyan had a monster throw on his final javelin going 91.39. Problem is it was like an inch out of the sector everyone thought. When the TV broadcast ended he was 2nd place but now in the results they have him in the winner.
They didn't chaulk the sector our 90 meters so maybe that is why they are letting him get the throw in. There is no doubt he had the longest throw of the day and that is the point of the competition right?

Longest throw or not, staying inside the sector is an integral technical part of the event, just like not stepping past the board on takeoff in the long jump or staying behind the line when shooting a free throw. The rules for these events are designed to measure a degree of control in addition to power/speed. That said, if officials didn't extend the sector boundary as far as somebody could throw, it's their mistake, and I say count the throw if it's disputable!

Umm, no. You have to stay within the side-line boundaries, not within some end-boundary.
i wonder what vesely and the other throwers were thinking. do they want it to be legal because it's such a massive achievement to throw over 90m? or do they just want the win regardless.
Who can take all these Kenyan dopers seriously? Athletics became an utter farce.

A tribal group is not a small population living in a few villages, it's a classification of many different, culturally related tribes. There are elite Kenyan distance runners from ALL the major tribal groups.
Average calorie consumption per capita in Kenya - national average, not just a few tribes - is among the bottom 15 countries on Earth. No, most of the country is not different from skinny. The horn of Africa is a place of widespread poverty and hunger.

But how was that throw allowed? It does appear to be clearly outside the sector.

If I have my facts straight, they didn't just extend the sector lines but remeasured the sector, and that's how it was ruled in. Even a tiny error can get magnified to 6 inches when you go 90+ meters out from the foul line. I now have a fantastic story problem for next year's math classes.

The throw should have been counted and I am glad it was. The meet director is at fault..Javelin sectors should always be put out to 100 meters as the WR is 98.48. Its like calibrating the timing system so it doesn't register times below 9.58 because no one has done it for a while. Throws are constantly getting shafted from judgement calls. Races get called back all the time or told to "stand up" if things don't go properly and its all electronic, its made to minimize human error at the start. Throwers have 6 chances only, no mulligans, and its all based off a judgement call. Officials have become power hungry at most throwing events, interrupting and tampering with the rules. Its nice for once to see this kind of error work in favor for a monstrous performance.
I multiplied Yego's result by 39.3"/m, converted it back to feet and inches and got 299' 3+". Almost another 300 footer! Thought those days were gone for a long time!

It's actually 299.835958... feet, or just over 299'10".

Comments by people with access to the meet officials say the sector layout was recalibrated and the sector lines were not correctly drawn in the fist place. The meet technical official is responsible for verifying every thing before the competition begins. Being accurate while putting lye/paint down over a 100 plus yard stretch is very difficult and human error can creep in. Plus if the sector was just freshened up on existing marks repetition could magnify slight alterations over time. Foul lines side lines in baseball football golf out of bounds markers are never perfectly straight. Just go down to your local HS sports field and look.
