What to say to a guy riding a bike on a 400m track

You should have said, "Go ahead and pass me, then" Never give up lane 1.

He was probably just calibrating his GPS to check that the readings were correct. No big deal, just tell him to hit 60sec pace and you'll be fine.

Well, you should give it up to a faster runner, but certainly not a bike.

OP, are you that scared of confrontation that you would just pucker up and start a thread on LRC instead of asking him why he's on the track? You don't have to be a jerk, but you can ask why he's riding a bike on the track.

In all honesty though, he's probably doing less damage than you.

Tell him to GTF off the track.

Report him to campus security.

Find the high school AD and mention that if they can afford tens of thousands of dollars for a track, they can probably afford ten dollars for a sign that says "no bikes" among other useful rules, such as

no little kids running around

jog/walk in or outside lane 8

no dogs

no soccer balls

look both ways before crossing

be aware of all current or potential traffic in both directions

clean up and stack your hurdles, you slob

Its time that you settle this like a man.

yea call the cops! lol what a pansy! Just find another track to run on! Take a picture of him or somthing, but honestly, if the owners of the track don't care much, why should you.

Wow. Certainly don't call the cops, that's not what they are there for. But, talk to the guy. Like, ask him why he's riding on a running track.

I ride, and I've used a 400m track to calibrate my computer... when NOBODY else was there.

Local kids sometimes ride their BMX bikes around the local HS track when I'm running there. I usually just challenge them to race. They love it!

This... or calibrating his bike's computer. Bikes are banned on all the tracks I've been around, except the ones paved in asphalt.

He was probably just doing a TT of a mile on a bike. Aiming for a 2:30 or something.

Ha! A similar scenario happened to me when we were living in my husband's very small hometown. I tend to run a little hot, so the exchange between me and the offender was pretty heated. Plus, he was running with two women who were hogging (literally) lane one by running their repeats very slowly. Turns out he's actually friends with my sister-in-law and a pretty decent guy. (Who also runs a little hot.)

Anyway, like a previous poster said, just tell him to GTF off the track. Unless, of course, there's no sign posted saying bikes aren't allowed. Then you really can't argue that he's not allowed.
