I need ink to prove it.
Tayshaun Prince ran a 1:42 800 the other day.
I am calling total BS, especially since its probably 20 degrees with 40mph winds ouside in Philly and I doubt he ran 4:17 around one of the 16 laps to a mile indoor tracks
boy, never heard this rumor on this board before. is it the same guy who posts this like every six months?
i must say, if true, that's quite an improvement from the 4:43 (or whatever it was) that has been posted previously. must have put in a good base (hills, tempo runs, over-distance runs, i'm sure) over the summer; pretty impressive considering he was on the olympic team and all.
Practice man... it's just practice. I mean come on just practice man. He's on me, but it's just practice man.

Speaking of a 4:17 mile, I couldn't believe that the Hanson's guys ran a 4:17 for their 4th mile of a 10k. I know they had the wind at their backs, but wow.
It's actually been in the 50s the last couple of days.
The Sixers used to practice at St. Joes. St. Joe's indoor track is 176M, unless they've gotten a new one.
But is still think it's total BS
I for one believe it. Back in the 70's Kansas used to hold an informal mile race pitting the basketball team against the swim team and the track teams sprinters and jumpers. In 1973 Tom Kivisto, an all conference point guard ran 4:21 (he was a 1:52 880 man in high school) and the following year a swimmer Gary Kempf ran 4:17. Iverson plays 40 minutes a night... the man is in shape!

Hey man, are you looking to buy a house? I've got this sweet Phoenix-area condo, 2br/2ba, with an awesome view of the ocean and it backs right up to the beach. Interested?
Oh BullSHIT.
Come on now, really.
to quote Allen iverson "practice...practice...were talking about practice"
This is a lie. We all know Iverson doesn't go to practice.
It's not preposterous to believe that an NBA or college bball player could run a sub-4:30 mile. It is, however, preposterous to believe that IVERSON ran a sub-4:30 mile. I won't believe it until I see it on paper, and even then i'll have my doubts.
Furthermore, playing 40 minutes of bball does not put you in 4:17 mile shape, or even 4:50 mile shape. I've been a bball player before, it's just not the same thing. And while we weren't playing at an NBA level, we were certainly working harder. In an NBA game the guys trot up and down the court like its a cakewalk. Jog and stop, jog and stop, everynow and then there is a fastbreak or something. 40 mins of court time in the NBA DOES NOT equal 4:30 mile shape, let alone 4:17 from Iverson of all players.
gosh...and i thought it was land-locked...oh what we can learn here on letsrun...(from one smartass to another...)

Agreed. I believe they have the talent, and perhaps the conditioning and the heart. But I don't believe many NBA players would hurt than badly without a paycheck waiting for them at the finish line. And I certainly believe that applies to AI.
Larry Brown once said that he respected Allen Iverson because he was the hardest working player in the NBA. 100% in practice and 100% in games. He lifts, and would often do a Dennis Rodman and ride a bike for an hour after a game. Don't confuse a bad taste in tattoos for a lack of desire or physical talent; I'm not saying he ran a 4:17 but it isn't implausible. In fact, of all the players in the NBA, the only one I'd pick ahead of IVERSON in a mile race is Ray Allen.
