Hey, I'm Tanner. I'm gonna be a Junior in HS this year, and that means I'll be more than likely the runner on the team with the most responsibilities. I have already created my training plan for the upcoming season, and I feel it is definitely a solid one. I really like helping my team mates improve, if that means critiquing I'll do it, if it means helping motivate them to get out the door, I'll do it. I really am willing to do a lot for my team mates to be successful and improve as much as possible. I have been talking to a couple of the team mates for the upcoming cross country season about their mileage, which I am asking that they start around 20-25 miles and build up as the summer and season go on all the way to 35-40 miles so that they improve.
Here are the lists of some of my team mates with reasonable running backgrounds for my school and the goals I have set for them.
Freshman 1- Ran a 2:06 800 this past season as an 8th grader, showing tons of talent considering it was off little training.
Goal: Build from 25 mpw to 40-45 mpw
Sophomore 1- Started the past cross country season with a 24:30 3 mile, then dropped all the way down to 18:30-40 by the end of the season. Showing lots more potential than I thought he had. Ran a 2:19 800m and a 5:29 1600m in track with no preseason training at all, and very terrible coaching.
Goal: Build from 20 mpw to 40 mpw
Sophomore 2- PRed at the end of the season w/ a 3 mile time of right around 20:00, yet he did this off of very light training, considering he was running in practice with a kid on our team that ran a 24 minute 3 mile at the end of the season.
Goal: Build from 20 mpw to 35 mpw
Sophomore 3- Didn't do cross country this past year, but he did do it 6th grade-8th grade which in 7th and 8th grade he was under 13 minutes and this was when our old coach really didn't let us do more than 3-4 miles in practice and no speed work at all.
Goal: Build from 20 mpw to 35 mpw
Junior 1- Very unmotivated and lazy, doesn't like running and really isn't willing to push himself on his own at all. Ran a 19:30 last cross country season and has PRs of 2:18 for 800, and 5:35 for 1600.
Goal: 20 mpw to 35 mpw
Junior 2- Very talented kid, really willing to work with the right person behind him, ran 12:09 his very first meet of 8th grade cross country and never ran again due to his physical expiring, he ran 12:09 off of no training at all and was definitely capable of low 11s by the end of that season with the appropriate training.
Goal: 20 mpw to 40 mpw
Please let me know if you agree or disagree with these suggestions and also if there is anything you think I should tweak or change just tell me I wont get upset by it at all. The reason I am helping them with their mileage instead of my coach is because I think that they are a lot more comfortable talking to me and letting me know how everything is going and because I see them all on a regular basis at school
