Say there is an (actual) high school freshman age male East African living in the U.S. He was born in the U.S., and does not play any sports. He has never trained for running. Say he turns out for xc. Assuming his training is decent, what sort of progression/times would we see here?

When I was in HS we had a couple Kenyan girls move into our district mid season. I think they were fresh off the boat. Everybody was excited thinking they would dominate just because they were Kenyan. I recall them being very slow, lazy, and drinking soda during practice. Your mileage may vary.
