Does anyone know if they raced it to the line or did they cruise in together? I'm assuming since it was .08 they were racing? How did it play out.

Neither can hold the jock of the 1978 Henry Rono. 13:45 is a joke for those guys.
-
i was there, and they were cruising the entire time. they weren't racing at all, and jenkins just let cheserek take it

Year, but who can?
Seriously, it's hard to think of a runner who had a better year than Rono did in 1978. He set 4 world records in less than three months. And did a bunch of other amazing stuff, stuff these guys can't even imagine.
Back to the present: Is there any chance these guy will get pushed hard this year? Or are they just going to be able to keep playing with themselves? -

Is that even fun? Legitimate question, not trying to put down their accomplishments. They're very good, but I personally would be frustrated to be told by a coach to tempo at a conference meet. It's kinda...boring. -
"Takes Down"
I feel like this phrase would only be appropriate if it was describing Jenkins beating Cheserek, it's pretty expected that Ches would win this race.
"He's back"
Since when was he ever gone? -
Rono was a great runner but he was also 25 that year, a man racing much younger college athletes. That was before there were age limits for foreign athletes.

Yup, setting 4 WRs in three months is not impressive in your small view of the world. -
I love the logic of Oregon Jerks. Rono is old. Maton is a high schooler.
Rono had less running experience than either Cheserek or Jenkins when he set those world records. Rono, barefoot his entire life, got his first pair of shoes when he joined the Army at 19 years old. -

If you think these guys can't imagine those things, then you don't know serious runners. They learn their running history.
Did you not read the article of how Chez ran 100 miles as a teenager, in order to get to his high school exams to qualify for the high school in the US, after rains had washed out the roads?
If you think a Kenyan kid with that background hasn't heard about Kenya's legendary running athletes, you're mistaken. And a kid who ran 100 miles at age 15, or something, and has done what he has the past two years, already, can't imagine a Henry Rono accomplishment. Yeah, no. -
Rono was 24 when he set the records. He began at Washington State as a 22 year old freshman. Old by college standards but keep in mind he did things no one had done at any age. He ran 1308 at a tri college meet with no rabbits. He ran 2745 at the pac 8 10k. He ran 1320 in the NCAA heats with a 408 first mile. Crazy few months from that man.

He got tired. -
Remember, those indoor races were on 160y bank board tracks, the likes that an entire generation of current runners have never seen before, nor ever will. Cobo Hall is at least worth a second per quarter, or more.
Those Spring track races were not nighttime time trials, under the lights, and in perfect conditions....they were run in the afternoon, under an overhead Sun (or when he was lucky, a blizzard, and a rain storm) -

Did you not read the article of how Chez ran 100 miles as a teenager, in order to get to his high school exams to qualify for the high school in the US, after rains had washed out the roads?
.
You believe that article where Ches said he ran all those miles to get to his HS exams? I don't believe a word of what he has said about his past.
When he 1st came to the USA he told everyone he was an orphan - we later found out his parents are still very much alive
Then he claimed to have never run before coming to the USA - again we later find this to be untrue
And 3rd in HS when he ran a steeplechase he told people it was the first time he ever did the event and yet again it comes out later that he raced 2 or 3 of them back in Kenya before coming to the USA.
It is typical of many of Kenyan runners telling tall tales that they know the press will eat up
Ever wonder why so many of the had to run 10 miles back and forth to school every day and even home for lunch? Why didn't they build any schools near villages?
Ches tells people what they want to hear -
I knew it would not be long until the Henry posts came out.
26 years old in his last year in college.
I followed every Henry result I could get my hands on as a HS'er unfortunately over a month late.
I was a big fan, but:
Some people that dump on Cheserek because they think he is old, completely skip over this time and time again.
Henry was setting WRs in buckets and was clearly in what turned out to be his prime.
