Or Can I do a marathon in my backyard in sub3 as a training run and use that?
Or Can I do a marathon in my backyard in sub3 as a training run and use that?
Charity program
Join a New England Running club, they usually get some "qualification bypass" bibs
Live in one of the towns on the route
Work for one of the race's major sponsors
Probably lots of other ways I'm not familiar with.
Run a sub hour half and they'll let you debut in the elite field.
Why don't you just run a marathon at 6:40 pace as a training run?
Don't use the money excuse, because if its not worth 50-100 bucks to you, then don't assume that you should have the right to do it.
You can run a sub 1:05 half to get in the olympic trials but that still won't get you in that snobby overpriced charity fest they run in beantown.

are we talkin' treadmill or track?
If you miss a loop or three on that little out and back in the park, you could run your half marathon, count it as a marathon, and get your BQ easy!

If you're trying to avoid racing a marathon to get into Boston, why do you want to do Boston? At your pace, what's the big deal about getting into Boston?
Kudos on your 1:11 half. Now run a full marathon and qualify like an adult.
People that try to qualify and run Boston these days are just about as annoying as crossfitters. Why would you want to be one of those people?

Jamin did. And vice versa.

The problem with these solutions is they put you at the back of the last wave where you will fight your way through 1000's of people.
Your best option is to just qualify on an approved Marathon course

As a 1:11 half marathoner, Why do I have to race 2 marathons per year in order to have 1 of them be Boston? That's retarded
A buddy of mine made his marathon debut at Boston. Received a bib off of a 1:07 half.

You don't have to "race" two marathons; go jog a 2:45 and you can start at the front. If you can't be bothered to do that, then find another race and quit whining. Also, as far as I know you have over a year's qualifying window, so it's really a 1 marathon/year requirement.

But a marathon (even jogging one in a local race)doesn't fit into my coach's training schedule leading up to Boston 2016. Is there any other way to get in?
Yes, you can get in based upon your half-marathon time you just need to get in contact with the right person.
I personally know someone who got an entry solely based upon his half marathon time. His coach got in contact with someone in the BAA.
