When you consider how good Jenkins currently is. Being that close to him is super impressive.
-
I'm curious what he closed in.
With the wind I didn't think he would get it, half way through he had lost contact with the first group, was having to fight the wind on back stretch until someone else passed him, and suddenly on the last lap he was by himself in 3rd. They didn't show it but with the distance he had I think he was by himself on the final backstretch in the wind as well.
Very impressed he stuck with it. Makes me curious how fast he would have gone with less wind.
Yay! -
How old is he? If he's 19 U don;t really care
-
He is in HS. We aren't saying he broke the AJR, but he did become one of only a few to break 4:00 in HS which is the impressive feat.

hmmmm my wind conversion abacus says that a 3:59.38 on a windy day on the west coast converts to....3:49.12 if running on hate
Nice. I hope he runs on hate at Pre!! -
1500? So like 4:17 mile probably?
-
Nope. FULL Mile...

Thank god he left that program at his high school... those moron coaches could've prevented this phenomenal performance. Congrats Maton, that's really somethin.
-
He is ranked #3 in the Mile and 1500 now for HS athletes. With better conditions and in peak condition. Could he run closer to 3:55? Maybe I'm getting a big greedy with the thought but they were saying all along how windy the conditions were.

Great run.
Converts to about 3:58:14 -
Can someone post a link to a list of all time HS times?

Maton, like Edward Cheserek a few years back, is indeed old for HS. He probably very easily could be a freshman as he turned 19 on March 28th. So consider him to be a red-shirt senior in HS!! -
Yeah, 19+ years = not any more impressed than if freshman in college. Lots of college freshmen break 4 at 19. Some do it at 18 (looking at you, German).

1) What happened to Prakel?
2) Why did Mac Fleet DNF? -
Fleet paced

Obviously a great run! Very impressed with him. No matter what happened between him and his coaches, he obviously made the right decision. We'll be hearing a lot more about him for years and no one will care about the high school coaches or ever hear about them again. Maybe they did a good job with him, maybe not, but it sure looks like he is doing just fine on his own. Excited what he will do at the next level when in the hands of world class coaches and talent.

HECK yes!
good stuff from him
screw you fella's that are scraping his achievement -
All the 19yr old crap doesn't really bother me. High school has age limits, he meets them. All kids develop at different rates. some 18 yr old matured early, some late. Not to mention with sept/oct the typical age cut off it is normal for seniors to be 18yrs 6-7 months to 17 yrs 8 monthos or so.
That all said, if Maton and Fisher were to run the same times I would of course side with Fisher as the more impressive performance.
and 19yrs in high school isn't the same as freshman in college. Training, competition etc. ramps up a lot in college.
The cool thing is we actually have these great races to debate this issue on. Dream mile is going to really be something this year! -
You dont know what your talking about re: coaches. Matthew owes everything he has to day to those coaches. I know I was there from day one. Best keep your pathetic words to yourself.
