Hey all, districts is coming up, and only top 2 move on to state. There are 2 1:54/1:55 runners in the district, and the qualifying standard is a 1:53.5. I currently hold a PR of 1:57, with a 4:32 mile (my second time running it), 51.6 400, and 24.1 200m (only ran once). What do you think are my chances of getting a 1:53, and what do I need to do to get there?
chances are very low.
In order to do it you'll need the race to go out perfectly on pace for it - about 55 sec for the first 400, with you tucked in behind the leader for the entire first 400m and hopefully more if the leader stays on pace for 1:53.
You'll also need to have been underperforming considerably in your mile and your other 800m races and to have done some good base aerobic training during the winter.
I ran 1:57 off of a WAY too fast first lap, leaders went out in 52, I followed in 53, and proceeded to crash and burn for the next lap. I feel like better pacing would defintely help a ton. I feel like mile mile has a lot more potentially as well, since we went 69-70-71-62, and felt good through the whole thing.
