After being at the front of the pack, EC fades to second last in her heat and runs 6 seconds slower than she did last year.. Reason for concern?

Yes. It seems to be the season where wunderkinds are reverting to the mean.
5 weeks after indoors and 9 weeks until outdoors, just checking the boxes.

She's most certainly not peaking right now, and she's also most likely training straight through this meet. What's more concerning than the fact that she ran a 4:16 is that she seemed to be struggling quite a bit to actually do it near the end of the race.

A young 1500m runner, likely just coming out of an early season aerobic building phase, will certainly struggle in early races. Nothing to be concerned about. Be concerned if it still happens in late June.
And don't compare this years early results to last year's, it doesn't work that way and is unfair to the athlete. Athletes change coaches, training programs, yearly targets based on what is happening (i.e. Worlds this year), body changes, pre-season injuries, etc.
Still very young. Raced, at least twice, at Penn last week. Flights, time zones, academics and pressure from d1ckwads on LRC. Hardly surprising.
