My 1600 pr is 4:45
3200: 10:36
3 mile: 16:34
Can run a 60 flat after a Devils workout(the michigan)
I've never ran a competitive 800, any advice on how to run it? And any predictions on my time? Hoping for sub 2:10.

Full sprint 400m then die

1:23
2:20
Try taking it out in 61-62, then focus on the person in front of you. 3rd 200 is gonna hurt, but stay determined and never take your eyes off of the guy ahead. Last 200 all out. Really try to keep your form together, pump your arms, and listen to the crowd screaming.
If all goes good and the weather's not too bad, I think you have a shot at 2:05-2:06. Good luck and don't forget to warm up properly.

if you're a gutsy balls to the wall runner i can easily see sub 2:10. if you're feeling weak and don't push hard enough then probably 2:15. test yourself
Looks like you have miler qualities if you can finish a workout in 60. When my pr was 4:45 I could run about 54-55 in the 400 and about 2:07 in the 800m but if its your first its best to run an even 63,63. More seasoned 800 guys with more knowledge about their 400 speed could get ever slightly improved time by running two seconds faster on first lap as long as you maintain the 63 on the second
What pace is the race likely to be run at?
Don't miscount the laps like the guy that did in the 400 thread. If you do miscount, be gutsy and finish even though you blew up and fell on your face.
Don't lead the race.
With a 60 flat in a workout....
4:45 in the 1600...
Horrible drop off to 10:36....
I'm going to say 2:05
I hate the 800m. Back in the stone age (1996), I could run 4:27 and 9:32 but never ran faster than 2:06 in an open 800m. I tried all sorts of ways to run it. I tried coasting in 62 then trying to hammer. I tried going out hard in 58 then hanging on. My best 400m was :56 in a relay. My best 800 came from going out hard in 58-59 then hanging on for dear life.
It looks like you may have some basic speed. If I were you I would go 60-62 then try to hammer the 3rd 200m then pray.
Alan
First race, 2:11. You'll be overwhelmed by the pain. Next race, 2:07.
I found ending a long run with an all out 600 a good 800m prep. try it a few times in a period of 2 weeks,

2:08.
You can probably go 2:06, but you won't pace yourself right.
If your goal time is under 2:10, go out no slower than 62-63. With your inexperience in the race, you have to plan for a positive split. If you go out in 65, you'll probably positive split that too.
I agree, I'd say around 2:08-2:09. I'd say aim for 61-62 sec for the first lap, then hang on for the last lap. It will hurt, just concentrate on keeping your turnover quick. You may surprise yourself, good luck!
2:10.46
I am going to go out on a limb and predict you have a massive PR in the 400 going through in 49 and then fade badly to run a 50 to break the world record and run 1:39.
Is this one of the few threads on LRC that actually provides meaningful advice for a newbie runner?
"I've never *run*"
