Has anyone ever raced a steeple without spikes? Would it be wrong to wear racing flats? I hurdle barriers and step on the water barrier (biggest concern is gripping the water barrier)
I'd be wearing new balance if that makes any difference.

In addition to the traction on the water barrier that you step on and over, you will also benefit from the traction that spikes give on a track surface as you hurdle the other 4 barriers. If you are trying the event for the first time and don't want to buy a pair of spikes, ask to borrow a pair from a teammate. Given the severity of a fall on a barrier, I would not take a chance on wearing a shoe without spikes.
