May be getting kicked off track team for argument with coach

I'm pretty sure you'll need to run for the team in order to compete.

Could you reach out to your original coach who got sick and see if he can talk some sense into the sprint coach?

If not, try talking to the sprint coach again and see if he comes around. Explain that the 400 and 800 are too close in the schedule to run them both, and you want to run the best you can in the 800. Offer to do the 4x4 at the end of the meet maybe?

As a good Christian you should offer to run the 200 as well.

Tell this driver's ed teacher with a whistle to put his best short sprinters in the 3200 and then you'll gladly run the open 400.

This is not uncommon. Many hs teams have someone coaching them for whatever sport only because this person was willing to do it. Your situation is compounded by a former sprinter, which is usually someone who never paid attention during a meet. They were only worried about their events.

You will have plenty of stories to tell. But, for now, I would toe the line and pray the distance coach returns soon.

Get over yourself and destroy everybody if you are God's gift to running.

Or, come in last in the 400, then do your beloved 800, and confirm you are God's gift to running. And then when you get a little older and beaten by faster people, you'll work hard to convince yourself you are still God's gift to running. And still get beaten.

Do the events.

Separately, how did you reach the conclusion the workouts are no good? If they really aren't good, then find another way to get coached and compete in your area.

If he makes you run the 400 then just jog it through, and focus on the events you're aiming for.

Better yet, false start the 400 and get DQ'd from it.

This way you will save your energy, and he won't be screaming at you round the track (though that would be fun).

Have you ever come out of blocks?

Grow a pair. Tell your coach you're not running the 400 or you're quitting the team. Don't let jackasses like him get their way.

OP what's your 400 PR? Or relay split? Will you be able to score points for the team? Do you already have states in the 800 and 1600 in the bag? I know it can be frustrating having a coach that doesn't seem to know what they're doing. Keep in mind that good 800 training means some pretty short intervals leading up to a peak, so don't scoff at 150's 200's and 300's. I realize you're also a miler, so hopefully there's some longer stuff as well.
