no kidding. having a couple foreign kids is great, but when you recruit your whole team overseas, it kind of makes it just like some (really really crappy and low paying) pro league.

I was happy to see Butler do so well, but have to agree there's something with almost the entire team (and all the top finishers) being from the UK. Especially when comparing them to Michigan, Colorado, and even Indiana who recruit and run a large number of athletes from their own state.

I was surprised with Butler and did not know they had all those foreigners, I still think men's caoch of the year should have been Wetmore or Wisco's coach. I certainly didn't expect Butler to take 4th though, so either way, they came through in the big meet, foreign or not.

How is Franklin doing? I know he was diagnosed with Cancer or something along those lines a year or two ago. How is he doing?

Congrats to Butler on their 4th place finish...definitely the surprise of the meet. How is Franklin finding these guys? He's always coming up with these guys who run for a year or two...but are studs(ie-Mark Tucker).

This years team was stacked with experienced runners. So anyone following this team probably wasn't as surprised about their finish as we were. Here Butler's top five at NCAA's...

Laws(Sr.) 24 yrs. old - England

Overall(Jr.) 21 yrs. old - London

Goodliffe(Sr.) 22 yrs. old - UK

Frazer(Sr.) 23 yrs. old - Ireland

Sherman(Jr.) age unknown - England

Franklin has definitely found a niche in recruiting some good foriegn runners...the fact that Butler University's entrance requirements seem abit lax probably helps.

there is no way butlers entrance rules are lacking, it is a great university, offers a great education, and is not easy to get into

maybe for your regular students. i have first hand experience with the issue at Butler...trust me...they find loop holes for good athletes.

don't get me wrong...Butler is a fine university. Which means loop holes are often times needed to get everyone in.

If it's a great university, then why can't Joe get the great American kids? It just looks bad when it's a new crop of British/Irish kids every other year. It comes off looking like a JUCO.

like not letting Boaz into Butler. Franklin tried for 2 years to get Boaz in.

Joe tries to get homegrown talent, but it is hard to get American kids to come and pay almost the entire $20,000 for tuition. Just not enough scholarships to go around.

it costs the forgiegners the same to attend Butler...but somehow Coach Franklin gets them! I definitely agree with JUCO feel. the guys are in and out within a year or two...at most!
