I read a story a long time ago about Boston sending letters to people that didn't finish near their qualifying time telling them not to run again.
Is this an urban legend or a remnant on when qualifying for Boston was actually a bit difficult? Since they don't even seem to care about bandits after the whole thing last year, I wonder if this is just an urban legend?
Uh... well... to run boston the next year they'd need to qualify again... so it's a bit like natural selection. If someone runs fast enough to initially qualify for boston but then stops training and runs way slower in boston, they probably won't qualify again... problem solved.
Also, they were probably the most concerned with bandits last year more than any other year in it's history since they year they started to allow women in.
Most hobbyjoggers have to brag they are running Boston, even if it means paying their way in. I don't know why any Shithead would even want to race Boston since it's a slow as shit course just like NYC Marathon.
But New Englanders and M@ssholes have hyped this shitty race up so much over the years that the general public thinks anyone who can get their way into Boston is the equivalent of 4 minute mile.

I can't find the article anywhere. Can someone help? It describes how some runners got letters from the race director questioning their performances in the race. Some wrote back that they were sick, etc.... They actually had to prove why they performed poorly in the race or they were banned for life. Anyone else remember this article?

Typically when you completely fabricate a story others tend not to remember it ever happening because it didn't.
If it wasn't in an article, it wasn't. Unsure of it.
No one is fabricating anything, they are INQUIRING! Big difference. So take your accusation elsewhere.

Why would the BAA dis-invite runners to next years race because they were not fast enough this year? They have to re-qualify anyways... It makes zero sense so that is why I am so confident.

Not a troll attempt. It was something I thought I read at some time. I can't find it now. Maybe it was in an in-flight magazine or something that isn't web archived.?
The deal was the RD barred at some runners because they qualified every year, but performed like 1-2 hours slower than the qualifying time. Over and over again. Finally they asked for an explanation, and got ridiculous excuses, and banned them.
Maybe I dreamt it? It doesn't make any sense, I agree, but the memory of reading this is pretty vivid. Maybe it was another marathon you had to qualify for?
That's why the subject was a question and not a statement of fact. I was asking to verify if this has ever happened or if there was such an article at some point.
