Great season opener, much better than Cain's 4:17 for second at the Oregon Relays. She seems to be ahead of where she was last year at this point.
I was very critical of her when she barely raced through the Fall and winter, but mostly because she collapsed in a race and then was in denial about it.
This is an amazing time for a HS girl (even if she is a pro). Outside of Cain, I don't think anyone in HS has run faster (besides Efraimson herself)? I know that nobody will record it as any kind of HS record time (and they should not - she makes money now) but I think only Mary Cain's 4:04 is faster. It appears that Elise Cranny ran 4:10.95 last year.
As Cain has shown, once you are nearly the fastest all-time by junior year, you are not going to improve like a normal HS boy or girl. To get much faster than her 4:07 last year or the 4:09 this year she won't need to get in much better shape, she will need to get in faster races. Races that are won in 3:58-4:02 and where everybody gets out of her way ... in a long line.
Just like Cain, I doubt she will be 3:55 material at any time in her life. But she could make it to 3:59-4:00.
"she collapsed in a race and then was in denial about it"
What does in-denial mean? Obviously she didn't deny the fact that she fell down. What do you mean?
I have waited for a long time to see this young lady do her thing on the track. That is a special runner!!! As a high school senior, running in the lead pack, swinging wide with 120m to go, with the look of lion in her eyes. She believed she would win! She did not, but I thoroughly enjoyed the effort and fight in this young lady! There will be many races in the future, where she will swing wide, and win by many meters. Can't wait to see her in 5 years. Go Alexa!

What does a male runner who faked an injury in the 800 meters to avoid disqualification in the Olympics (but was healthy enough to win the 1500 meters the next day) have to do with the topic of this thread or with the characteristics normally attributed to a lion?

If you saw the race and the interviews, everybody acted like it was no big deal; like she was just running hard, loss concentration and tripped over her feet. But really it looked like she had some medical or nutritional issue going on, making it look like she was crossing the finish line at an Ironman.
