Ok
So what school could be a great program for collegiate XC and track (esp. the distance events)?
My nomination is Vanderbilt. Here's my reasoning:
1) It's in the SEC so it has a desirable conference.
2) The school provides a great education. Runners tend to be nerdy and most cannot count on running past college. A degree from Vandy would be a sought after by runners looking for a solid academics and a real career.
3) Distances do not require a great deal of scholarships or big numbers like fball and other sports, so the school benefits from fully funding the program.
4) Vanderbilt is in a great city. Nashville is a fantastic city with a lot to do and it's easy to get to from most any where east of the Miss. So most runners could get home easily.
5) Vanderbilt is a rich school. It has SEC money, plus the alumni. They can afford to fund a top tier program.
