I was just wondering what everybody else thought, I'm not sure what would be harder to do.

A sub 4 mile. Although it depends on genetics and the type of runner that you are, the sub 4 mile would be like running a 13:30 for me.
def. sub 4 mile
It isn't even close a sub-4 mile retard.
i think the best way to answer it is see how many guys run a sub 4, and compare it the number who can run sub 14
i think you'll probably find sub 4 to have less guys, but id be interested to see if someone did the numbers
ncaa indoor qualifying standards:
mile 4:00.10
5000m 13:55
if you are an ncaa athlete, it looks like the sub-4 mile is only slightly better than the sub-14 5k.
also consider that the mile will be slowed down considerably more indoors than the 5k; thus the 4:00.10 vs. 13:55 comparison means the two milestones are close indeed (if you're considering outdoors).
Most people don't even know how far 5k is. Sub 4 wins in a landslide.
ok, i'm lazy so i'm just gonna take one perspective and use round numbers, but look at just the high school males who have run....almost everyone runs a mile (its just so popular) but 5k's are a little less popular (they arent run quite as often) but you still look and see that only 4 guys have broken 4, but how many guys have broken 14? about 20? it shouldnt be too difficult to see which is tougher in this situation
They are about the same. Sub 14 for 5k and sub 4 for the mile were athletic milestones achieved at about the same time in history.
The mile distance however, no longer has any releveance at all internationally.
5k is an Olympic distance.
Outside of the US a sub 14 5k will be mroe recognised in athletic circles.
The 14min barrier was broken by Gunder Hagg in 1942 when he ran 13.58.2. The previous record was 14.08.8 sey by Taisto Maki of Finland in 1939. Hagg's record stood until 1954 (the same year Banister broke sub-4) when it was broken four times, first by Emil Zatopek (13.57.2), then by Vladimir Kuts (13.56.6), then by Chris Chataway who beat Kuts in an epic battle at the White City to run 13.51.6 - Kuts retook the record before the year was over clocking 13.51.2.
To Joe Public a sub-14min 5k means absolutely nothing whatsoever. A sub-4min mile, however, is something that even non-athletes can appreciate.
