Good to see "fetch" finally happened. I guess Regina George isn't all that she's made out to be.
She most likely means she is done with classes in her major so she is taking easy elective courses just to stay eligible. She probably doesn't go to class and doesn't do homework.
You are allowed to take less than 12 hours (generally accepted as the minimum to still be considered a full-time student) your last semester of competition as long as you are taking a class that is required to graduate. She probably is taking a 2 credit senior seminar or something. She got her work done early, good for her. Now she is getting a head start on life after college.
I read somewhere a top W. D1 xc team basically phoned it in all Fall - they lived in a rental house at altitude far from campus, took some kind of internet coursework, and just ran all the time.
Was it New Mexico? Arizona?
If I remember correctly, her major is journalism and a requirement for the major to graduate is to have an internship and keep a blog.
So literally zero classes. Going to her internship and writing in her blog are her only academic requirements for her last semester.

I raced against her in the big ten and can't say enough about how much of a class act Leah is. Excited to see her race this outdoor season.

If you don't understand what I posted, look up UNC's athlete diploma mill. Good thing the NCAA found the two, yes two, people in a University the size of a small city responsible for it.

Wasn't it Iowa men? They weren't even on campus for most of the fall IIRC
Not quite on the same level as Football or BBall players, but those options are available to all athletes. Many D1 runners push themselves academically because they know that they are unlikely to make a living running.
This option is available to ALL STUDENTS, not just athletes. Leah is a fifth year senior and on a 100% scholarship (I assume). Any student can decide to string their classes out and wait until their 10th semester to fulfill their very last requirement for graduation. However, it's usually too expensive for regular students to decide to do this and they just fit this in during a summer or another semester. As long as you need the credit towards your major (minor doesn't count) to graduate and you are a fifth yr senior, you're eligible to compete. Even if it's only 1 credit, you're eligible.
I'm not a big fan of all the God talk either but I just skim those parts. She's a tough, intelligent and well spoken competitor and I can ignore all the religion talk to appreciate this.

Speaking of a black male basketball player; during the 2005 NCAA Basketball tourney, we constantly heard about Sean May of UNC graduating early !
Now we know that he was an African-American Studies major.....which meant that many of his classes never, never met and they gave grades away !!!
His college degree is worthless; congratulations Roy and Sean.

It isn't unusual for senior athletes to have a light load their last year, especially if it is their fifth year. We had a guy during his fifth year that took twelve credits during cross season, including one class toward his major. His last semester, he only had 6-7 credits, including his final class toward his degree and one class he had always wanted to take for the fun of it. I saw other times where people would come into college with some AP credits and they would take a class or two in the summers. They took care of business early on so they could take it easy their senior year and either have more time to focus on running or do job interviews.
A lot of college seniors that finish their degrees early are allowed to finish their sport without being enrolled in class. Or if you prefer...many athletes college coursework is such a joke that it's about three hours a day of glorified napping.
