Thomas Awad 13:33.29, Ivy Second Best All Time

Given his sub-4:00 miling ability and the way he handled the Heps xc field, this kind of improvement from Awad is not really unexpected. A sub-13:20 in the fairly near future would not be a shock, either.

Though I can't imagine that his coaches would allow it, even if Penn were in position to win the meet, it would be fascinating to see Awad attempt the Impossible Triple (1500, 5000, 10000) at Outdoor Heps.

Long timer Sap will lose his spot on top before too long.

being a sub-4 guy in no way means you can expect sub 13:20 and it would be a HUGE shock to see awad run that fast.

Awad barely won xc heps. he won by a second and wasn't even in the lead until less than 200m to go.

Yeah but sub-four from someone who's actually "supposed" to be a distance guy is pretty good...

Awad to the lead from Michael Sublette though, who is a phenomenal runner in his own right. I was highly impressed to see Awad hold off Sublette

Maybe because he didn't need to make a move any earlier? He probably just figured that he'd sit on the top pack all race and kick to win. Smart racing in my opinion.

Awad has been on a roll the past couple years. This doesn't surprise me at all and it's a good consolation prize for missing indoor nationals. He'll have a very solid shot at All-American this year in the 5.

He's only a junior, right? Could be in for a big year next year if he continues improving. Top 10 XC? Cracking into the top 5 at the track nationals?

Yes, he's only a junior.

I believe he can get First-team all-american in the 5km this season (provided that he stays healthy). He kind of reminds me of a Donn Cabral in terms of him being a dedicated athlete, good speaker, approachable, and being such a team player/supporter. It's no surprise he's really blossoming under Steve Dolan (who also coached Cabral at Princeton).
