i know a nationally ranked Senior runner whose car is full
of shoes and shorts and shirts, like a mobile locker room
anyone else have, or know of someone, who has this habit?

Not me personally but I knew a coach that lived in his car (in Boston year round)and had everything in his car. That is except a shower - he used the school for that.
You're both strange!
he LIVED in his car? did he park on campus?
what did he do in Winter? it gets very cold in new england.
that's a very low impact lifestyle.
I keep an "emergency kit" of half tights, gloves and hat, and one long sleeve and one short sleeve shirt in case it's colder than I had anticipated or if an opportunity to run arises suddenly and I can't go home.
I keep a pair of old spikes in my car, and use them for doing strides after a lot of my runs (either that or I just do the strides barefoot). During the summer I'm sure I have some extra towels in my car to help dry off after running in the 90 degree heat.
of course! who doesn't? NO SARCASM! i keep a pair of spikes, a spike wrench...a pair of trainers, long & short sleeve shirts, shorts, sweat pants and spandex in a gym bag in my trunk...no kidding! just in case i find a nice trail/race or just decide to go running...weird huh?
I always have flats and shorts in my car, and there is usually an old t-shirt or 6 back there that I just haven't bothered to take out.
I have a pair of spikes I keep in the back of my truck. Luckily no one ever wants to steal them. I usually through my training shoes back there too. I leave them there for when I run somewhere besides at home. If I leave them up front they make my truck stink. If someone actually steals them that's there own fault.
do you live in a warm weather climate?

My family still lives in Florida where I lived until this year. My car is still there, unless they have sold it or my brother has totalled it.
I think most runners have at least a few "supplies" in the car...I have to get my run stuff packed up before I head to work most days, so I usually have an old pair of shoes in there just in case I forget a pair in my gym bag, a pair of shorts, socks, t shirt, and gloves/hat. Even if I don't need some of these items, there have been many times when I've delved into my stash to help out a fellow runner who forgot something!
Always have plenty of training gear, and some spikes/flats. ALso try to keep a football, basketball, glove and wiffleball bat.
Never know when a game, or even beter a race, breaks out.
We actually had several times when me and some running friends were like, hmm, its 100AM, were bored, lets go runa 4x400-or 3x4, depending on how many were there. Nothing better then middle of winter, pitch black track out there popping quarters racing a team of deeer and squirrels. Those squireels can be bad ass.
lol
several years ago i had a work schedule that was adjusted for a time. it was very hot so i was glad to be running in the early AM (4:30-5AM). every day for a week this same rabbit would be at the same spot and would run alongside me for maybe 10-20 yards before darting off into the woods.
never forgot that, your post reminded me of it.
