Why do people lie about their times? Especially in the Internet age, when it is so easy to research this information.
For example, last night a former D3 athlete claimed that he ran 10.39 wind-aided and 10.6 in the 100, as well as 47-48 in the open 400. When asked about how he did at nationals, he said that he slipped out of the blocks.
So this morning, I go to look him up for that four year period and no one from his school was even on the performance list from 2003 - 2006. Still thinking maybe there was some confusion, I checked the school records: 10.89 and 48.50.... from 1987.
Obviously the story about the blocks slipping is somehow suppose to subconsciously explain why he never was a National Champion, I guess. But, don't these people realize that a one-minute Internet search shows they pretty much have no integrity. Is it any different than telling somebody you're a doctor, when you're really not.
I just don't get why people would try to pretend to be something that their not. And their attempted deception really shows their glaring character flaws instead. Seems like a stupid thing to do.
