New York has an all-class state meet in track, with the distance events being run with everyone from public, private, Catholic, and independent schools. Everything 800 and down is split into big school and small school divisions in the prelims, but in the finals it's an all-class race.
Also, there are separate podiums for big school and small school, but one can also medal in the whole state, which is called a "federation" medal. So a small school kid who placed 18th overall in the 200 prelims might get 6th out of all the small school kids and still get a medal for that, and a big school kid who wins the whole state outright will get a big school medal and a federation medal.
In cross country there are separate championships for public, private, Catholic, and independent schools, but they all meet up in the Federation Meet. However, a lot of the top public schools opt out of Federations, like Fayetteville-Manlius, because of how close it is to the Footlocker and Nike Cross regional races. The Federation Meet in cross country isn't nearly as prestigious as it should be but it's still the all-class New York State Championship Meet.
