I see she is entered in the Euros this weekend however it looks like she has qualifying standards that would get her in the mile and 3k for next weekend. Am I missing something?

Running European Indoors instead. Not enough time to run both.

There certainly is time to run both. In fact, her teammate Rosie Clarke is running both as we talked about in our European indoor preview:
http://www.letsrun.com/news/2015/03/a-fans-guide-to-the-2015-european-indoor-championships/We spoke with Iona coach Ricardo Santos earlier this week as well. He didn't want to elaborate publicly on the decision but confirmed she won't be racing NCAAs as explained here:
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=6361125#NotAveryCertified
she might regret that decision... as she didn't qualify to the final.
the fact she did not qualify for european finals in the 3000m shows that she would have likely had a bad race at NCAA's as well. Not sure where 9:05 would place her, but she got outkicked in the slower heat.
Could you imagine a kid from Duke telling coach K he wasn't going to play in the tournament................
Double edged sword of recruiting international superstars into the NCAA system.
And part of why our sport is in trouble.

What does that even MEAN? How does Avery running Euro's instead of NCAA's endanger track and field? I mean, if she was deciding to ditch T & F entirely by doing something like move up to the marathon right now I would understand, but she is still running a track meet, just not NCAA's.
I'm really not a fan of how popular it is these days for people to just throw around phrases like "bad for the sport". Until I see a direct correlation between an athlete's decision and a negative impact on the sport then I couldn't care less about your armchair analysis.
It's indoor track. It's not a big deal.
I agree. It is only indoor. I understand there is nothing else going on, but nevertheless....Also, I like that USATF Indoor Champs had odd distances. They should run them more often. It would differentiate indoor from outdoor.

The big question is: will team GB (and NI) blame Avery's subpar performance in the Euros on the NCAA system even though she has raced sparingly this winter? I don't think Iona pressured her to double or triple up at the MAAC meet in order to garner "points" for her team. The NCAA system is one of the "go to" excuses that the Brits use when their US based athletes don't perform well.

Is there a "Stupid Post of the Year" award?
I know it's early but this is way ahead for 2015.

AND- how many college kids tell their coach- Coach (K, etc) I'm entering the NBA, NFL, MLB Draft- good luck winning NCAA's without me.
Kate Avery can do no wrong in my eyes
Actually, much of this thread is emblematic of the issues that are hurting our sport:
1 - NCAA megastar opts to run Euros instead of a collegiate championship meet; two meets that are not in direct conflict from a scheduling standpoint
2 - another collegiate athlete from abroad facing issues pertaining to allegiance to country vs. allegiance to school; the Duke basketball example is not exactly applicable; I'd like to know if collegiate soccer, tennis, swim athletes skip NCAA competition to represent their countries in events closely scheduled to NCAA events
3 - it's 'just indoor'; WRONG, it's indoor track & field; there is a both an NCAA and a European championship held in this sport; not interested? your favorite athlete not competing? that's too bad, but that doesn't minimize the efforts of all others with a stake to a patent dismissal by arrogant people that can't take a DI or professional athletic pursuit seriously

I think Kate has her eyes on a bigger prize.
It's indoor
Indoor
The sideshow attraction of the track and field carnival
Can anyone blame her for going after bigger fish, bad race or not?

So, skipping one indoor meet to run another indoor meet (the previous weekend) follows some form of logic?
What kind of logic are you following?
