Leak O'Connor coming off that 4:26 carry at BIG 10s has to be the favorite. Quigley has a shot as well (although recent coaching "change" may impact that).
..BUT I'm going with Shelby H.

I'm not sure I'd say Leah is the favorite. When I interviewed Shelby at Millrose, she was very confident she could break the CR.
http://www.letsrun.com/news/2015/02/7-pre-wanamaker-mile-interviews-shelby-houlihan-confident-can-get-collegiate-record-lawi-lalang-wants-sub-350-much/Now everyone blew up in that race but she blew up and ran 4:30. That's pretty good. Plus she's the reigning NCAA 1500 champ with a 2:01 800 pb. I'd say that makes her the favorite.
I didn't follow Big 10s and O'Connor but you say she split 426? Ok that's with a running start and 1600 meters. So add 1.5 seconds for the extra 9 meters and maybe a half second for the running start and you get 428-9 for the mile.
That's not that much faster than Houlihan's 430 rust-buster at Millrose so Leah is not going to be able to run away from Houlihan and Oconnor has a 2:07 800 pb.
Quigley has also run 2:07/4:29 this year. I'm saying Houlihan is the pick.
Wondering if Quigley might be the dark horse here. She has been steadily improving the last few years.
Promises to be the most competitive womens mile in NCAA history. Three women capable of sub-4:30, and a few dark horses right behind, including Erin Teshuk who who has a ninja kick:
I went with Shelby in my picks. She'll be fresh, and I'm guessing O'Connor and Quigley will be in the DMR. 2:04 should be indicative of good enough closing speed to get the job done.
Houlihan had a rustbuster, 9:03 3k
She was confident about breaking the CR, but can she actually do it?
It's a FACT Quigley ran 4:29
It's a FACT O'Conner ran 4:26 split (4:28/4:29 mile conversion)
Houlihan was strung along her whole 4:30, Quigley had a pacer for the first half, but had to run the second half alone en route to her 4:29
Emma Coburn 2 years ago ran 4:29 at the Millrose Games and then ran 4:29 at NCAA's to win, why? No one in the field could run as fast as her... could this be the fact for both O'Conner and Quigley? Could they tire Houlihan out w/ her expecting the race to be tactical?
The biggest aspect to this is, how tiresome will O'Conner and Quigley be? They both are anchoring the DMR the night before, and it's going to take them both running in the mid 4:20's if they want even a chance at beating Georgtown, Baylor, and Stanford
With this said, I don't think O'Conner or Quigley will use the burn out approach in the mile final the next day giving the race to Houlihan, she has no DMR team to anchor and has 2:01 speed
IF they were all running fresh, my pick would be Quigley
They announced 4:24 for Leah's split at B1G's.

How would a coaching change effect her current fitness? New coach yells her to slow down during the race?

I forgot that athletes are fitness robots and emotions do not come into play at all.
The coach, of a female runner no less, resigns shortly before at national championship and that has no potential impact? Don't kid yourself.

A few years back there were three women who did go sub-4:30 in the same year (Kipyego, Bowman and Barringer) but the latter didn't run the mile at NCAAs.
So far only 1 in this group has gone under. Kind of bummed Cranny didn't run the mile this season with the best 1500 PR of the bunch. I even think Dom Scott could go under 4:30 but she isn't entered. We can see what those two put up in the DMR if the anchor leg is a fast one.

Everyone has moved on, the coach goes, you say bye-bye and its over. Quigley has her own life goals.
Erin Teschuk!
