Donn Cabral takes down Yenew Alamirew

I like seeing Americans in some International road races! Doing well, too.

It was very windy with the slowest winning time since it went international.

One can only 'take down' someone if one wins a race.

To run a decent race, get beaten by a handful of guys, and then scroll down the results to find some big name who happened to have a bad day in order to claim the 'take down' is sad - just sad.

No, actually, what it is is a *great* result for Cabral, who continues to impress, and another example of classic basement-dwelling behavior by one of the LR Wanker Brigade --namely, you.

A 29:22 10k is NEVER a great race, nor does finishing in the pack count as "taking down" someone.

It's a good result and even though Alamirew and Longosiwa (let's not forget Longosiwa, the Olympic 5k bronze medalist) are more (very high level) 3k/5k specialists with sharp dropoffs after 8k, contending in a field like this is still good for Cabral and even True, even considering True has achieved 6th place at World XC. Sammy Kitwara wins again. He's been getting wins at this race for as long as I can remember! ha. Cool race with a nice setting. Now, if either of those two had beaten Moses Kipsiro of Uganda, a known distance stud, that would be supremely impressive, even knowing that Kipsiro, especially in his late career has occasional downs in championship 10ks, road races, xc races, etc.

What about that Paul Tanui at 7th. Cabral tied him. Tanui I think won Kenyan national CC in like 2011 and then won world CC. I know he ran a 26:50 1000 somewhere. Let me check I think it was 2012 World CC? He is a young guy.

Even under adverse conditions, those are just OK results and just focusing on who they beat is too much of a glass half full.

What were conditions and course like?

I think the report said 80s and very windy.

I'm always surprised at how out-of-form some of the world's best are in some races. Wouldn't think that Alamirew, Korir, and Longosiwa would race if they weren't ready to run faster, but I guess they have to pay the bills until they start getting ready for their outdoor track world championships peak.

That may be a good performance for Cabral but thats a pretty silly title for a thread when the guy got beat by 7 guys who are not Alamirew

Weather was similar if not better to than usual

Can't believe how far some top runners let themselves go between seasons. Longosiwa in the 30's! Alamirew 29 high. Cheruiyot 33.23! Crazy!

All of them a good three minutes slower than what their best would be! Not even trying really!!

By coming in here, and bragging about an American with a 29:22 is not good.

We as American distance running should not be settling for such times. Rodgers and Shorter didn't. They battled. They ran hard. Cabral has run under 14 several times, and should be able to run 28+ with little effort.

We need to start at the bottom. At high school. Increase the numbers. With more numbers comes a higher probability of great runners.

I don't know, the big boys were only in the 50's. True and Cabral at 29:19 and 22 with Tanui. Like to watch the race. See how True and Cabral got dropped. The gap just doesn't sound all that dominate to me. I'm no 10000 expert Ill admit though.

you realize where this race was held, no? that men's field has some NAMES. man, i can't believe Kitwara is only 28. he is the road OG, been tearing them up for 7+ years now.
