Say you're running 70 miles per week during base phase, and naturally when the base phase ends you begin more intense stuff and drop your mileage to (For the sake of argument) 62 MPW. However, (Once again for the sake of argument) 12 of those miles are not done at aerobic pace, but anaerobic pace. So that leaves you with 50 Miles worth of Aerobic miles you are running. 70 V 50 is a big difference. It seems to me that by the seasons conclusion, the 70 miles a week will have been lost. Why not drop 8 miles worth of aerobic mileage, and add 12 miles of anaerobic giving you a total of 74 miles? That way, you only lose 8 miles of aerobic work as opposed to 20?
