Can someone critique my program for the 3000/3200m? My peak race is 12 weeks away. I went stale in indoors, running around 15 seconds slower over the 3200 than I should have been. I then took a week off, and I feel better.
My highest mileage before has been 50mpw held for four weeks, and following these 4 weeks I had an awesome race.
First 3 weeks = All easy mileage at a good aerobic effort. 50mpw with some strides thrown in 2/3 times a week after runs. One long run a week at 12 miles.
Weeks 4 and 5 = Bump mileage up to 55mpw. Include 1 fartleks a week with medium to strong surges such as 90/30/60 seconds on with 5 minutes between each as to not accumulate lactic acid. Include a tempo run each week, 25 to 30 minutes long. One long run a week at 12 miles.
Weeks 6 - 11 - Hard training period. One vo2 max session a week,shorten long run to 10 miles after week 7/8, but maintain overall mileage to 55mpw. Alternate weekly between a tempo run and 200m repetitions with full recovery.
2 weeks before peak, drop mileage to 40, In final week have one short speed session and drop mileage to 35.
