she was in 3rd place at 4.5k, ran off course, and was diqualified.
Ran off course?? what happened? Bad deal there!
I saw her at about 4k, she was strong and a "sure bet" to get in, then was 10th-12th in the chute. I thought she fell or something. I feel bad for her--she can roll(tide).
Benton from USF received an at-large bid... I call bullshit. Ambross, the girl from UAB, beat her at CUSA (3rd to Benton's 6th). Benton also finished 6th at regional, but Ambross was cleary in 3rd before going off course. USF must have some political connections to pull this off, when that spot should without a doubt go to Ambross.
I hope Ambross keeps it up... she will win that race next year.
how do you run off course if you are in 3rd place and there is a lead car???
also... at large individuals go stricktly on how you finish for regionals.....it has nothing to do with anything else.....they go to the highest place finish from any region that didn't make it in
I agree with your point about the top finishers go to nationals, but at-large slots should go to the best non- qualifiers in that region, and Ambross is clealry one of the best in the South Region.
if you look at the results... she was disqualified.... so she didn't even have a place in the region, they couldn't have someone qualify that didn't even have a place in the results......sucks.....i just dont understand how you are in 3rd place and run OFF COURSE?! she was following people!!!
The women's course was a 1 1/2 loop course. After running the full first loop and starting into the second 1/2 loop, the UAB lady was in third place, about 100meters behind the leaders. Going around a turn that was clearly marked and coned off, she did not see the leaders and she ran straight thru the cones and intercepted another part of the course RUNNING THE WRONG WAY. When she ran into the two leaders coming the other direction, she turned around and followed them the rest of the race and finished back a ways.
The meet referee had no choice but to disqualify her for not running the prescribed course.
I also understand that UAB was one of the only teams who did not come out on Friday and run the course to get familiar with it.
Overall, it was a very good competition on a GREAT XC Course and the Alabama staff did a very good job with the meet.
oh yeah totally!! i was completely blaming her for it no one else.. you should ALWAYS know the COURSE you are running, it has nothing to do with the people that were working the course... thanks for the exact situation, i wasn't understanding.. 100 meters behind would do it though.... unfortunate!!
UAB did not come out to see the course. Birmingham is an hour from Tuscaloosa. Why the hell would the team not come and see the course? Don't say money, they could have driven down, run the course, stretched, and driven back in three hours. I feel bad for the girl but the course was very well marked plus they ran the same portion of the course on the first loop of the race.
I thought that Lauren Blankenship of Samford ran a tough race. No one expected her to qualify automatically. What does everyone else think of the South Region results?
Blankenship looked great, maybe All-American on Monday. I heard the UAB girl ran off course and the Georgia girl was right behind. The Georgia girl completely stopped for 15 seconds trying to figure out if she should follow the UAB girl because some guys were yelling that was the way to go when it was not. I feel bad for the UAB girl because she looked great.
