What are people's thoughts on the benefits of sleep vs fitting in a second supplementary run/training for the day towards optimising marathon performance?
Unless I stop socialising / using the Internet completely I find running doubles through the work week requires me to sacrifice sleep to fit it in. My after work runs are the main session of the day through the week and I find if I'm too tired or getting sick I can skip my morning relaxed run (7-8k) or cross training (spin class or swim) in order to get an extra 1-2 hours of sleep.
Of course getting a good amount of sleep and doing double trainings each day is ideal. But what do you think is more beneficial for getting in peak shape for the marathon?
