'No comment,' from USATF spokesperson Jill Geer, aka Bagdad Bobbi.
The USATF board is not only unforgivable, they are despicable, as well.

I see that Hersh has held the position for the last 16 years. Has the sport improved over the last 16 years? Is track on tv more or less? Outside of the top 5 runners do any runners make any real money? I see that this vote looks odd, but what exactly was Hersh going to do for the runners if he was elected? He had his time and as far as Im concerned Track is worse off than is was a decade ago.
Overriding a vote is what dictators do.
And, what has your favorite (Hitower) done to increase runner's income?
In fact, what has anyone done to increase runner's income?

It is just now a corupt organization??? No outcry from Hersh from the last 2 decades? Or just now that he isn't apart of the dictatorship? Like I said, clearly something wrong with that vote, but maybe, just maybe Hersh has seen similar stuff happen over the last 16 years? A real man stands up to corruption when he could gain by being silent, sounds like Hersh is standing up now only because he has been cut out of the loop.
Sandra Richards Ross:
"I would dare say, our board of directors is better equipped to know who represents our interests. Our board is diverse!"
And your membership isn't? Arrogance personified.
Translation: Hersch is too white, too male.
US track is way better than it was a decade ago.
Think of the 2004 Olympic Trials.
The US had trouble completing teams.
The 1500 was Webb and a couple of guys.
Ritz made the 10,000 team by jogging and finishing last because they didn't have 3 other guys with the standard.
Tim Broe was the 5000 champion.
Jonathon Johnson the 800 champion
No distance runner could even sniff a medal.
Now you have WC or Olympic medalists in the 800 (Symmonds), 1500 (Manzano and Centro) and 10,000 (Rupp) plus Lagat 2011 in the 5000 (who did medal in 2004 for Kenya).
And Jager is a medal threat in the steeple.
For the women Carrie Tollefson was the 1500 champ in 2004.
Think about now, having Jenny Simpson, Shannon Rowbury, Uceny, Cain, Brenda Martinez, Moser.
Today's depth is ridiculous compared to 10 years ago.
Yeah. Track is worse off now.
The RUNNERS are doing a lot better but its no thanks to USATF. How is THE SPORT doing???

Is this Stephanie? Define 'improved.'
Powers will not do any of those things either. Look at the IOC's 2020 plans. Monetize and broadcast rights is all they care about. They got Nike, or the other way around depending on your perspective. The athletes would perform for free, plenty of chum to attract an audience.

Totally agree that the DISTANCES are above and beyond what they were 10-14 years ago, but don't for a second think USATF deserves any credit for this.
Name one thing they've done that has actually produced tangible results that can be linked to our resurgence?
If anything, the credit goes to...
1.) the internet (better access and sharing of training info/results)
2.) Track Town USA/NYRR for actually marketing/promoting events and athletes
3.) Nike, for (better or worse) actually investing and promoting distance running/racing.

The sport is the runners.
It's always been the runners.
The fans are runners.
What endangers the sport most are the colleges that are cutting track.
To me, the main thing that USATF does is provide a national championship for team selection.
And they sanction events and cooperate with USADA on drug testing.
They have a website for info.
Maybe they could promote the sport better but that is always a challenge just with the nature of the sport.
It's pretty unwatchable to the lay person.
USA has a medal threat in every single event on the track now (for men).
That is unprecedented.
And I know no one is happy about this but Justin Gatlin was the best track athlete in the world last year.
