Does anyone routinely replace the standard insole/sock-liner in your new running shoes with an after market insole such as Superfeet even if you don't have a problem that requires an orthotic, either custom made or over the counter?

I don't currently have a foot problem, but I routinely replace or modify the inserts in my shoes because I've learned that if I don't, it will eventually cause problems.
The typical running shoe is made to fit as many people as possible so the arch is made slightly lower than the arch of the average person. (NOTE: There are some shoes that have high arches, of course.) That way, it can fit a runner with high arches, normal arches, and low arches. Thus, most recreational runners would benefit from additional arch support. Inserts like Superfeet provide a higher arch support and a stability platform. Not everyone needs the stability platform, but most runners would either a) benefit from more arch support or b) not be harmed by additional arch support.
A lot of better runners have been blessed with good feet genetics so they can run in racing flats. Heck, I could run in racing flats when Nixon was President... today, not so much.
Yes, I always use Superfeet Green in my running shoes. As soon as the new shoes come out of the box, I throw out the stock insoles and put in the Superfeet. I have no problems with my feet or ankles; Superfeet are just comfortable for me.
Yes. Spenco's in all training sneakers and daily work boots.
