I really tried to give football a chance this year. And, as a whole, the game was very exciting. But that brawl 30 seconds before the end of the game... Like, was that *really* necessary? It wasn't even just a few guys; from the camera it looked like everyone was in on it. Yes, the play call was terrible, but you deal with it and play your best to the end. It's called sportsmanship. I feel like now what could have been a celebration of athletic achievement is going to be nothing, because all the media's going to focus on is the fight in the light of recent controversy over the NFL. And to make it worse they did several whole instant replays of the fight...? That shouldn't even be shown on the TV coverage. This sucks. Thoughts?
Superbowl: Anyone else think the fight at the end kind of ruined it?

Agree. I was rooting for Seattle but lost a lot of respect for them for instigating. Doesn't matter what the opponent says to you, play with class.
-
Was anybody who regularly watches football surprised that Seattle started that fight? Seattle's been playing that way for the last 3 seasons.
-
the fight was my favorite part!
-
It's more of a reflection on society as a whole now, I think.
-
What do you expect from a bunch of roided-up meatheads?
-
#51 and #72 Seabirds players should be forced to sit out the first 3 games next year as punishment for instigating the brawl because they started the fighting.
-
Forgotten already....

I think for the Seattle players that was the point. I'm not excusing it, but I understand it. That was such a quick turnaround from having the game won with just one handoff to Lynch to the game all but lost. Wanting to take the scorched earth approach in the final seconds was extremely tempting.
What baffles me more is why some New England players didn't take the high road and just walk away. I mean you won. Heck, in that moment I probably would have been on such a high that I wouldn't have noticed some Seahawk player punching me and knocking me down.

Agree with the poster above, this is how Seattle has been the past 3 years, low class. The entire league, and half the country got to see it -- and better still -- Seattle's fanbase got to see it on the biggest stage.
As to above, that's not how it works. Once a fight starts, the instinct is to protect your own team, and rush to help anyone.
I watched the replay, and it seemed like that's what the Patriots were doing -- not enough officials on the field to contain it.
I like the suggestion of the instigators being fined and made to sit out 3-5 games next season for making the league, and the country, to the worldwide audience, look BAD.
It was a predictable ending for a Seattle loss, even such a shocking loss. It was nice to see a team that is so whacked an entire SNL Opening Skit was dedicated to taking the pisss out of them, get humiliated, and then humiliate themselves on the big stage. -
The previous 2 hours of guys knocking each other on their azzes was cool, but the violent skirmish at the end was a step to far, huh? Alright.
-
What do you expect?
These are just modern day Roman Gladiators. -
I loved the one Seahawks player who hit Gronk from behind, then turned and ran when Gronk so much as looked at him.
-
I thought it was a nice segue to hockey season.

I don't think it ruined it, it happens in most sports. It certainly does make you lose respect for the players involved though and cheapens what should have been a great end to a great game.
-
I understand that there are a LOT of emotions at the end of a close game like that and am not surprised that a fight broke out. I'm surprised there are not more fights in football seeing how physical the game is. I don't think it ruined the game at all though. It does reflect poorly on Seattle though.
I've read through several news articles from Google and not one mentioned the fight so it does not seem to be over shadowing what was a very exciting game. -
I thought it was superb entertainment. They should make it an annual tradition. No doubt the Pats provoked it in a bid to get a penalty, which was the right thing to do in the circumstances.
Why were viewers shocked by a fight between steroid pumped hyped up players. This sort of thing is normal in most versions of football, including soccer.

Right.
It didn't ruin anything.
