My parents will not allow me to run in the mornings anymore, however I have been avoiding this by running at 3 in the morning then sleeping for another hour. Is this disruption of my sleep schedule bad enough that it is better to just do singles?
Also I have heard that if you run twice and take a nap that is the best thing so am I actually doing the best thing with my hour of sleep after the run?

I think that you are just setting yourself up for burnout. Irregular sleep is the last thing you want. Just sleep through and try to work it out with them (your parents) later if you must double. I'm of the opinion that high intensity singles are the best way for a high school athlete to realize their potential, if you have any questions on this just ask.

Get to bed early enough, and you can make this work, at least until you get caught. Why won't they let you run in the morning?
They are VERY concerned about my schoolwork. They disapprove of running and are always threatening to 'kick me off the team' if my grades aren't perfect.
Leave a crack-pipe and some dope on the couch. When your folks question you about it, tell them that it is either running or dope. Problem solved.
They have good reason to be worried about your school work if you are getting up in the middle of the night to run.
School is about following the rules and you are not good at it.
But I am more interested in helping you improve your training.

definitely double. It'd be better to get a full nights sleep then run, but running at 3 is better than nothing. Some friends of mine who got out of school and had practice early enough used to double after school. Practice in the afternoon and another run at night, just before bed. School really is about following all the rules and being a suck up though. Every class besides aps are so easy that an imbecile could get an A in them (the only way to not get an A is to break rules).
It is not worth it to disrupt your sleep to double as a sophomore.
It will be worth it as a senior. Sophomores who train like seniors will not improve as much as sophomores who train like sophomores.
Yeah, it's really counterproductive. You really need to educate yourself before trying to train yourself. During your sleep cycle, HGH, testosterone, other hormones are released. If you're not sleeping a full night, you're not recovering enough.
If you actually take the time to learn a thing or two about running and training, maybe you'll get somewhere. Until you do, you'll just be a kid who doesn't know what he's doing.
I read each time you sleep hormones are boosted, along with each time you exercise, Paula Radcliffe took naps, what is different from what I am doing other than less time awake in between?
I read books on Lydiard, jack Daniels, Noakes, bill bowerman, zatopek, Gerry lindgren, jim Ryun, igloi and decided on my training by blending them.
As a HS kid, you aren't going to listen. At least you are doing too much rather than too little.
Please sleep. Your parents sound like if they caught you, they would kick you off the team, given that, the risk is not worth the negligible gain that extra run will have, including the detriment the extra run will have on your sleep. Just do your miles in singles, it will leave more time between runs for recovery anyways, and a bonus more sleep.
I don't see why you need to run doubles, given you are a sophomore, if you can't handle the mileage you are running in singles, you are running too many miles, for a sophomore. Its better to be slightly under-trained than injured, Especially at your age. Unless you are an elite, a college coach will not want to take on an injury prone runner who is over trained already. They will always prefer the slightly under trained athlete, who has had no injuries or minimal injuries.
