ELIGIBILITY for D3 Schools

you've got 5 fall semesters and 5 spring or until graduation to compete in d3

To clarify this comment, it's 10 FULL semesters. (not counting summer and January term)

So, you couldn't go for 9 semesters, all in the fall, and still have 5 semesters of spring eligibility.

In your case, you'd be treated as a transfer student. You can go anywhere in D3 and use your remaining eligibility, but your new school will have to contact your old school to determine you didn't leave under academic distress or disciplinary action. (which would hurt your eligibility)

As long as you left in good standing, you could compete right away.

This isn't necessarily true. Did you run D3 as an undergrad and graduate from a D3 institution? If so, you can't compete for a different D3 school - you can only compete for the same D3 school that you graduated from. I assure you that you can verify this rule with your compliance officer. Not sure how it might be different if you didn't graduate and are still looking to run as an undergrad though.
