I usually just stand are stare out the window for about 40 minutes to an hour each day.
I usually just stand are stare out the window for about 40 minutes to an hour each day.
I usually spend ~ one hour staring at a wall each day.
Sometimes people ask me
"what did you do last night"
"nothing"
"Come on what did you watch on TV"
"I did nothing - I sat in a chair and looked at the wall"
"well that is nothing"
It can be good for your eyes if you work indoors on the computer.
If I have time, I generally spend 1 hour or more per day kind of just staring off into space and/or going for solo walks along a quiet path near my apartment. One of my favorite things to do is to visit a coffee shop, and spend the morning reading, writing, and staring out the window. My intent is to read, but various things tend to spark in my mind from my reading or from recent events, and then I write some in a notebook I keep. After this, I go back to reading and the cycle continues.
I was very busy this past autumn and did not have time to do these things, and I found it had a major negative influence on my quality of life. I kind of worry I might find myself in such a life situation again not only because it caused me grief but because I doubt most people would be able to relate to the need of staring off into space 1 or more hours per day.
sounds like meditation to me.
My farts make my eyes water

Is it truly possible to do nothing? Is sitting or staring nothing?
Actually I heard on NPR (so you know its true and yes I wanted to introject that I listen to NPR) that some studies were done on boredom and lack of overt mental activity and its positive effect on creativity and higher order processing.
So when you people were staring out the window, on some level your brain may have been thinking deeper thoughts.

That's the point. I like to sit and stare at trees and the sky or go for solo walks listening to what I'll call "transcendental music" specifically because it fosters deep thought that is not achievable when distracted by other things in every day life. It's like trying to run in street clothes with a backpack on and carrying something vs stripped down to just your running shoes and shorts. The latter is much more conducive to unrestrained excellence than the former.
WHa tis this life if full of care we have not time to stand and stare.
Opening lines of a poem i learned in 7th grade by William Henry Davies.

Do you have some examples of this? I am interested in what type of music that is. Thanks!

I have a job too. But it only takes me about 2 hours to get the job done. The other 6 hours I have to look busy. I stare out the window on and off for about 30 mins a day.
