I do a lot of distance runs for training, and I was wondering what some good playlists would be. But please, no country. Anything but country.

How bout some hard germen techno:
Aquagen, darude, amok, brooklyn bounce
HELL YES
You need long songs that would last at least a mile each. The problem is that long songs often start slowly and build, or have slow parts in the middle. I recommend Dire Straits "Tunnel of Love" and "Telegraph Road," Elton John's "Funeral for a Friend," Deep Purple "Highway Star," and Rush "Xanadu." If you're younger than thirty-five, these may not be your cup of tea. I don't know any new music.

Whats wrong with country??? Damn yuppie runners have to listen to music while running to start with.
The Long and Winding Road
i hate listening to music while running, i am not alert, the wire is annying, and holding the walkman/mp3player is annoying even w/ an armstrap. Why not enjoy the scenery, even if there isnt much and just enjoy the fact that you can run farther than 99% of the American population? Also, running while listening to music makes people think of running as a lesiure activity, try to represent it well.

Hedge, you're singing my song. Are you about 40? I'm betting most of the youngsters on this board haven't heard of these classics.
The Dave Matthews live long songs. Warehouse, etc.
50 cent "on the trails"
Eminem "lose your self in the trials"
"We will rock you"
"My Sharona"
"Wanderer" by Gary Glitter
"Represent" - Trick Daddy
"I love rock & roll" - Joan Jett
"Back in Black" by AC/DC
real runners don't wear walk-men they concentrate on the job at hand and listen to the music when the running's done.
I weigh in at 43. I get to play "Xanadu" when I teach Coleridge's "Kubla Khan" in my high school class. Ah, the good old days.
Stairway To Heaven
cry me a river
Vermillion and Duality by Slipknot
Nobody by Skindred
Gettin away with Murder by papa roach
Drop it like its hot by Snoop Dogg
Im so Fly by Lloyd Banks
just what im listenin to lately
How 'bout NPR?
Strung Out - No Voice Of Mine
To reply to both zzzz AND Liberal, my favorite thing in the fall is doing my long run on Saturday mornings with no headphones and listening to "Car Talk" on the drive home.
That show is either hilarious, or I am turning into an old man before 40.

Same. Saturday morning routine, long run, home by 9:30, Starbucks,CarTalk/WaitWait... And I'm not even 25 yet.
I'll second (third) that comment. I have a radio in my bathroom, so I can get my Click and Clack fix while in the car and while I shower.
NPR is sweet, I grew up listening to it at home, and now at 24, I've enjoyed it on my own for many years.
Garrison Keillor is the man.
