I'm a divorced guy who just turned 50 years old (but I look about 40) and I'm going to try the online dating thing. What age range should I seek in women in order to garner the most hits? 35 - 50...or is 35 too young?

Flagpole, is that you?
Don't deal with any chick older than 19.
35 is fine. 25 is better but not that attainable.
I'd say plus or minus 10 years. Figure in an additional -5 years for every 10k you make over 100,000.
So if you make $130,000, you can date ages 25 year olds!

Nope. Not 50. Not divorced. Not looking to date.
I recommend going with the standard 25-75. The old ones are often the most fun and the most adventurous (if you know what I mean).
Flagpole will never divorce.
Flagpole can be out there but after this long it can't bother Ms Flagpole.
My friend, who just turned in his wife of 16 years for his 3rd 30 year old wife, tells me this all the time, now that we are 50.
In my opinion this is different for women and men.
Assuming that when you get together with a person, you want to LIVE with them for as much of your life as possible, a big age gap is not desirable.
Since women live longer than men statistically, they can find a man who is a bit younger than they are -- up to 10 years if they want. Then she lives to 95 and he to 85 and they die within weeks of each other.
For a woman to hook up with a man who is 10+ years older is not super wise in my opinion. So, he dies at 80 and she's still just 70 and lives until 93. What a b!tch that is!
For a variety of reasons, not the least of which is life experience and familiarity with the same historical events, a 5-year swing on either side is typically best, and if you find someone who is your age (within a year or two) that is even better. Age should not be THE determining factor, but it should be considered.

for a first profile I suggest you specify 40 to 60. The key is shared cultural icons.
I subscribe to 1/2 your age +7

42 at 70. Sounds about right.

Going both ways?
So, at 50, the OP could go as low as 32 or as high as 86?
Beggars can't be choosers. With this question, you are putting yourself firmly in the beggar position. So the answer is: whatever scraps they hand you.
Get in where you fit in, my friend.
If I were you, I'd be on a 35yo like a Kennedy on a cocktail waitress.
You're in that sweet spot.
18+

I dated a 35-year-old for several months when I was 48 and it was fine. The 13-year age gap didn't seem to prohibit common interests and, at the risk of sharing TMI, the sex was great and occurred often. That said, many women in their early to mid-30s act is if I'm old enough to be their father when they find out I'm 50. Just wondering if the latter is the norm; if so, maybe I should seek women 40+.

The highest instances of STD transmission are in retirement homes etc.
"She'd" be able to find a new horny old guy.
