Has anybody noticed that there are a few songs that seem to be geniually about running, not just mentioning word running. Here are some examples I came up with off the top of my head.
Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner- Iron Maiden
Tough of the track,
With the wind,
And the rain that's beating down on your back.
Your heart's beating loud
And goes on getting louder
And goes on even more till the sound
Is ringing in your head,
With every step you tread,
And every breath you take,
Determination makes
You run,
Never stop,
Gotta win, gotta run till you drop,
Keep the pace,
Hold the race,
Your mind is getting clearer,
You're over halfway there but the miles
Just never seem to end
As if you're in a dream,
Not getting anywhere.
It seems so futile.
horus:
Run, on and on,
Run, on and on,
The loneliness of the long distance runner.
I've got to keep running the course,
I've got to keep running and win at all costs,
I've got to keep going, be strong,
Must be so determined and push myself on.
Run over stiles, across fields,
Turn to look at who's on your heels,
Way ahead of the field,
The line is getting nearer but do
You want the glory that goes,
You reach the final stretch,
Ideals are just a trace,
You feel like throwing the race,
It's all so futile.
Loneliness of the Middle Distance Runner- Belle and Sebastian
Have you seen the loneliness of a middle distance runner,
Whens he stops the race and looks around
I like the stage, I've seen it now
Long Distance Runner- Fugazi
The farther I go the less I know
One foot goes in front of the other
It all boils around to not hanging around
To keep moving in front of the gravity
The answer is there the answer is there
but there is not a fixed position
It keeps moving along so I keep coming along
and that's why I'm a long distance runner
and if I stop to catch my breath
I might catch a piece of death
I can't keep your pace if I want to finish this race
My fight's not with it
It's with the gravity
Long distance runner
Keep on Runnin- Dance Hall Crashers
I keep on running but I'm starting to tire
I keep on moving cause my mind's on fire
It's an uphill climb but my feet are gettin heavy
I keep on running cause I'm feeling ready
Keep on running...
I'm getting tired but I try to ignore it
Cause if I don't I'll be heading for it
I know if I stop I'll be a dead man
The way it is for me it must be in the plan
Keep on running...
I keep on running cause I can't turn back
I've got no choice my body's keeping track of the miles I've gone and
the miles left to go
If I stop now, everyone will surely know
Keep on running...
Stars of track and field are beutiful people- Belle and Sebastian
Have you and her been taking pictures of your obsessions?
Because I met a [boy] who went through one of your sessions
In his blue velour and silk
You liberated
A boy I never rated
And now he’s throwing discuss
For liverpool and widnes
You liberated
A boy I never rated
And now he’s doing business
The stars of track and field, you are
The stars of track and field, you are
The stars of track and field are beautiful people
Could I write a piece about you now that you’ve made it?
About the hours spent, the [worldliness] in your training
You only did it so that you could wear
Your terry underwear
And feel the city air
Run past your body
Could I write a requiem for you when you’re dead?
She had the moves, she had the speed, it went to her head
She never needed [anyone] to get her round the track
But when she’s on her back
She had the knowledge
To get her into college
But when she’s on her back
She had the knowledge
To get her [what she wanted]
Honorable mentions but not neccesarilly ABOUT running
Running on empty- Jackson Browne
Against the wind- Bob Seger
Running down a dream- Tom Petty
Run like hell- Pink Floyd
Run Run Run- Velvet Underground
Fool in the rain- Led Zeplin
I've got others too but these are the most noticable
